I'm wondering if it's possible to MIG weld quillions onto a bar of steel of the same type and thickness by building up the weld with multiple passes fully penetrated then cleaned up would I be able to forge down the mig weld and have it be strong enough to handle high impacts. I have the 5160, 8670, or 1080 as my options they are meant to be WKTL Legal Throwing Knives. Any advice on any part of this question would be appreciated. Thanks

Short answer - not very good idea.
Main issue would be the MIG weld would be of a different metal.
