Might be going to Florida, advice?

I might be spending a few months in Tallahassee, and I’d like to know what I’m legally allowed to carry. I’m a PA resident, and have a PA License to Carry Firearms (PA LTCF) and will be conceal-carrying a pistol. From what I understand, this is legal.

But I’m having a harder time understanding Florida knife laws. Here in PA I carry a Buck 124 or 119 every day, concealed. ~6inch single-edged fixed blade. Is this legal to carry in FL as well? I’m seeing some folks say that I can only conceal a sub- 4 inch folder, while others state that having a CCW permit means I can carry a knife like my usual ones.

What say you folks? Should I just buy a folder or can I carry what I usually do?

Thank you for any advice you folks have.

Florida is a more “free” state than PA as a whole, but understand where you’re visiting and apply common sense. If you walk around South Beach with a Bowie knife dangling off your belt, you’re going to get stopped by the police. If you’re swimming with alligators in the Everglades, people couldn‘t care less.

So treat Orlando, Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, etc like you would Pittsburgh or Philadelphia. If you’re out in the middle of nowhere, or someplace more rural, why worry?

“Pat-downs” are incident to investigatory stops so unless you’re doing something like standing outside of a jewelry store at 2am with a crowbar, what’s the concern?

I live in PGH, and I carry my bowie concealed. I’ve talked to local cops here who’ve told me I’m 100% in the clear. Just wanted to see if the same goes for Tallahassee.

Under no circumstance do I carry openly in urban areas. When I’m hiking, camping, hunting etc I do, but never in town.

I’m curious to know if that’s legal where I might be headed, that’s all. FL does certainly seem more free than PA in general, but their knife laws are more confusing. Unlike PA, there’s no preemption in place, and there also seems to be bans on concealing certain or all fixed-blades, but the law is confusing and I’m not sure if having a CCW permit exempts me from those bans.

In PA there’s simply no restriction on concealing fixed blades, unless you’re in Philly. Outside of Philly it’s 100% legal, with statewide preemption. A lot easier to understand the legalese here.

Florida's concealed weapon permit covers knives, but not sure pa's does. think only guns. so gun wise youre covered concealed in florida...but mind ya in Tallahassee, the state capital,..all govt owned areas and buildings are a no no. same with both universities up there. fsu and famu.

open carry or concealed fixed blade knife....ya need to look up the city rules and county ordinances. florida has one set of laws statewide for firearms, but knives weren't covered under this setup. so every city and county can have their own laws and rules. good luck on finding those.....

I appreciate the info, I’m thinking I’ll buy and take a Buck 110 instead of any fixed blades.
