The duke, these shots were taken west of Sydney back in the 70s. I believe the only TV commercial that he ever made in his career.
I hired the horses out to them for the commercial.

The commercial was for a shoe company; “Hush Puppies” the guys in the harnesses were left hanging for about three hours. I think their breeding careers were finished after that day.

He was one of the most genuine gentlemen I have ever met.

I remember him carrying a good looking folder, might have been an early Busse.:D
There might have always been a folder. :D :D

That’s me hiding behind the horse; he was one of my cattle horses and had just put on a buckjumping display, his first time with a western saddle. I was asked to stand there just in case the horse went berko again. :D
I’m 5ft 10, so gives an indication of how big the Duke was.
After the buck jump display, fortunately I was on the horse at the time and not John Wayne, his comments were, if you’re going to stay in this business, you would need steadier horses. I had three horses there, and the brown was the quietest.

There was a time in the 70s where I got into hiring horses and doing horse stunts, fall offs, that kind of thing. I figured I’d been doing it all my life for free, so why not get paid for it.:D :D

Got a bit hectic for me so I headed back to my beloved bush in the outback.:D

Ian,

Man, thanks for sharing those pics. I love the Duke, just ask my wife. I still wonder what this country would be like if the Duke was still around. God bless him.

Thanks,
I’m glad you liked them, I don’t know why he was in Australia at the time, maybe to promote a movie??
One thing is for sure it wasn’t just to do a TV commercial. He was interviewed on telly about that.:D
The money paid for the commercial would have been pocket silver to him.
It was not a long after his visit that he died.
Anyway he was a great man, and was my movie hero and inspiration as well.

btw, Jerry I think I have worked out the
