I like the 11, but prefer the 14 by leaps and bounds. I'm not a beer drinker, and I hardly drink soda anymore either, so the bottle opener is pointless for me.
I think scales for the 11 is absolutely necessary. I've tried both the factory micarta and aftermarket wood.
Personally, I think Tommythewho's wood scales are the way to go. They give the knife a longer, fuller feel. You can actually get a real grip on it. It does add more bulk to the blade if you want to wear it around your neck, but I prefer to carry horizontally on the belt, so the added thickness doesn't matter. Also, Tommy's scales are cheaper than the micarta.
You'll also want a new sheath. The factory is sheath isn't awesome. But you can get kydex from AZWelke or Godspeed tactical, or leather from Skystorm and others for a really good price. I can vouch for AZWelke kydex, since it's what I use. And Skystorm's leather pocket sheath is great, too. I have one for my 17, and it carries real nice in the pocket.
