Wow, two in one day! :)

This is one of Mike Carter's iconic pieces, seen on his web site, and recently purchased by yours truly. :)

This is one unique and outrageous hunter! 5 1/4" Alabama Damascus blade, 1 3/4" tall, nearly 10" overall. Rat tail tang. Hollow ground and semi-polished blade. Huge, warm, super-smooth, absolutely gorgeous, wonderful-in-the-hand Amboyna handle. Red, white, and blue spacers. Nickel silver bolster and butt cap. Hefty knife - about 14 oz. Wicked sharp. The sheath is hand tooled and a gem in its own, marked "Cater" on the back.

Mike Carter, who looks in on these forums, is also a relatively new knife maker and, again, I can imagine many more purchases down the road, based on this piece. Well done, Mike!

Should I use it... Too pretty to use... Must.. use... :)

It's cool how he put a topographic map on the blade.;)

Really gorgeous! Use it well.

Thanks. It's almost too pretty to use. I have it in the back of my mind that someday Mike Carter is going to be one of the GREATS and then I'll have used one of his early pieces. Still, with a blade like that, I can imagine many years of use and resharpening.

It's tearing me ApArT!
:)

Sweet! I have Amboyna on all of my custom fly rods. It's a BEAUTIFUL wood! And damn, what a knife you have there!

I will always consider this Mike Carter's knife, just on perpetual loan to me. Really, he could have charged a LOT more.

BTW, Mike, that doesn't mean you should be charging a lot more... uh... you could... but you don't absolutely have to. :)

I'm very glad that you are happy with it. I like to use pretty woods, and that is one gorgeous hunk of Amboyna, but I made it as a user. It's up to you. I have several that are safe queens in my own collection.

That is some of Brad Vice's "Alabama Damascus". I have been using it for a couple of years now and I have been very pleased with it.

The prices.... it's all supply and demand of course and sales are steadily increasing. ;) I have been trying to keep my prices reasonable and get my name out there a bit. Sometimes I know I charge too little for the amount of time I have in them but I love making them.

There are a LOT of very good knifemakers out there. I really appreciate you adding one of mine to your collection. May it serve you well.

I may use it lightly. No, it'll be babied. Who am I kidding?

When my wife saw it, she asked me (demanded me?) to keep it on display. She loves it, as do I. She says it is "beautiful and unapologetically masculine." I'm not sure there's anything much better than that. :)
