I promised Mike a LOOOOONG time ago that I'd post some pics of the great little knife he made for me, so here they are.
His wonderful wife Nancy made a great little leather pouch sheath for it, but it kept rolling around in my back pocket, and I worried that I'd end up stabbing myself in the butt. I thought I'd try and make a sheath that perfectly fit my back pocket, and that would index the knife upright so that it was easy to get to, and easy to put back.
Sure enough, it worked! In combination with the lanyard that Mike made (with a bead he turned from the same black ash burl he used for the handle scales) it's a cinch to pull out and re-sheath. I carry it damn near every day. The blade is CPM154, heat treated by Mike.

I positively love it!

...and yes, before anyone else can comment on it - that IS the radius of my ass cheek. I already know I have no ass, so don't bother pointing it out again!;):D

Mike is one of my good buddies, so I can understand how you would be honored to have such a piece.
The combination of the knife and the no-ass sheath make a nice package.

Fitzo is a stand-up kind of guy. I used to talk to him via Paltalk. I believe this is this first time I have seen one of his blades posted.

Can't beat old Fitzo for a true friend. Ya both did good.

That's a fine looking little knife! Nice work on that no-ass sheath too!

I am very happy you like it, Matt, and hope it always serves you well. I'm glad to see the signs of frequent use!
It was a fun small EDC to make, 3/32 stock ground on a 14' wheel and using Karl's recommendation of all rasps, files, and paper to form the handle. Blade's about 1.25", OAL 4".
Your sheath is just great for your back pocket. Nicely done!
Thanks all for the kind words.

Thats a really great knife from a guy that says he doesn't make any knives ;). That sheath looks to be a really cool design also, should be safe and easily accessable, plus be big enough it would be hard to fall out of your pocket. Mike are you wishin for that press back yet? How's the back getting along?

Its really nice to see your back to makin a knife or 2, keep them comin.

Bill

Hi, Bill!
Well, I may make 2 or 3 a year still, but that hardly even counts, does it? Just enough to realize what I can't do anymore. Skills erode.
I miss the press and the smithy a lot, but those days are gone forever. All this time on my hands and no body left to use. I think they call that "irony". ;)
Back ain't worth talking about.... but I'm hanging in there.
Hope you're doing okay with that shoulder. Give our best to your missus.

Dont mean to be personal, but could you post a pic of it in position? I am curious as to how deep in a jean pocket it sits, how much shows etc...

I cant stand items in my front pockets, but dont mind stuff in my back pockets...

Thanks

Same here. I'll try and get a pic or two in the next couple days. Bear with me, I tend to get around to these things... when I get around to them!;)

How did I know you would figure out a way to post a picture of your ass on the forums...;)....Awsome...cant wait!

Anyway...Very nice looking sheath...I like it.:D

Count me in as an appreciative supporter of Mike and his work. I absolutely LOVE the linear bevels in the handle. They add much class to it.

I'm not surprised.

Mike, how long's your waiting list...? :p   (Kidding...)

Thanks Matt, for the post. :)

This thread is useless without pics!!!....wait....nevermind. Its fine how it is!

Great lil knife! Love the backpocket sheath!

Hey Mike - why'd you make a scratched up knife like that? :D

I know, I know, I'm only kidding. It's a good looking blade, I can also see why Matt is proud to carry it.

Cap

Hey Mike... that's a sweet little knife and a great lookin combo.:cool:

Thanks for the kind comments, guys!

Cap, I got the idea for the finish scratches from Fender guitars' "Road Worn" series. Take a perfectly good guitar, artificially age and scuff it up, then sell it for more. I jacked the cost of that knife up 20% to Matt for those scratches on top of a 2000 grit finish. ;)

I like the knife VERY much. Personally, I do not care for the size of that sheath.
