I got a call from Sidehill Gouger this morning, letting me know that Mike Fuller, the founder of TOPS Knives died last Saturday, 8 Nov 2020. As today is Veterans Day I thought I would pass on some information about Mike. I did the first article on TOPS knives way back in 1999, and talked to Mike on the phone. It was not until several months later that I actually meet Mike at the Washington Arms Collector gun show in Puyallup, WA where Mike had a table. I have never been great with remembering names, but am good with faces. Talking to Mike in person I realized that I had met him before, way back in 1965, when the survivors from his Special Forces A-Camp at Dong Xoai, had come to our camp at Trang Sup. Dong Xoai was one of , if not the first multi regimental attacks by the Viet Cong in the war. In Dong Xoai was the SF A-Team and a small contingent of USN SeaBees, about 30 men total. Two Medals of Honor (MOH) were awarded for the at Battle, one to CPT Charles Q. Williams, the A-Team Commander and one to A Seabee, Marvin G. Shields, the first and only Seabee to be award a MOH. Mike was a very junior enlisted man, a Specialist 4, and he was awarded a Distinguished Service Cross, the second highest award for Valor. Sad that another man in the knife community and a friend of mine has gone. RIP. John

Thank you for sharing that and for your your service sir.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend.

He most certainly left behind a strong legacy.

Rest In Peace Mike. He was an awesome guy! I met him a few times at shows. Always happy and easy to talk with. He will be missed :(
