Hey everyone. I am starting to look for a new multitool with a bit more blade then tool. I like the following:

Any opinions welcome. I am also concedering the victorinox rescue model and the soldier model, am a bit one a tight budget though. Can find the rescue for about 55$.

The Wenger Ranger blades are bigger than those of the Victorinox 111mm series. I also think that the pliers are better prepared for heavy work than those on the Victorinox models. On the other hand, if I really need pliers, I carry a lightweight plier with me.

The Victorinox Rescue model is the one that I keep in my car. It has a number of great rescue tools, but in my opinion it is not really very for EDC, it also wasn't designed for that purpose.

I assume you are referring to the new Soldier model? The new Soldier model could be a great EDC, if this type of knife is allowed in your country (one hand opening, locking blade, blade size, etc.). I have the new Soldier model for a few months now and I like it. For me, it is too big for EDC, but a good companion for hiking and camping. There is also a civilian version of this knife, the One Hand Trekker, which is a bit cheaper. And if you don't need the saw, you could take a look at the Centurion or Nomad.

Here's a pretty good writeup on the Mike Horn Ranger over at multitool.org The TL,DR version is that it's fat and the bits may come loose, but some neat features that make it unique among Wenger's lineup (re: a real awl :D)
