In case you missed my review of the SPOT, I had to send it in due to a faulty sheath. Mike in the warranty department was quick to call me and apologize for the problem. He said that Spyderco was already planning a re-work of the sheath and I either had the option of waiting for the new sheath or trading my SPOT for something of equal value. I decided that I would wait it out, and over the next couple of weeks, Mike and I exchanged sporadic phone calls.
When I've called other companies in the past asking status reports on issues, they're quick to give a yes/no answer and then hang up or pass me off. Mike wasn't like this at all. He shot the breeze with me from time to time: we not only discussed our preferences in certain Spyderco models but random bits of pop-culture like the ongoing popularity of the Osbourne family.
After many weeks, he insisted that he send me something, as he still wasn't sure when the SPOT sheaths would be done their makeover. I asked if the Ronin had started shipping yet, and he told me that it had. He sent me the Ronin at the same time the collectors are getting there's because he wanted to do right by me. Today the Ronin arrived in the mail and I am very pleased with how everything worked out.
In our last phone conversation, he thanked me for my patience and I thanked him for all of his help. We were both very sincere; we were not thanking each other just to sound polite.
In short, Mike was a pleasure to deal with, calling me as many times as I called him, and always treating me with the utmost respect.
