Hello.
I was hoping to hear back from users and owners of any fixed blades made by Mr Irie.
I have the opportunity to pick up a nice little custom fixed blade in BG-42 and was wondering what others thought of his work.
Any info is appreciated.

TIA,

Roy

I've owned three of Mike's hunters. His work is excellent. He does a fantastic satin finish, his grind lines are outstanding, scales match up showing his eye for detail, and they cut and sharpen very well indicating great heat-treat. I'm not sure if Mike does his own heat-treat or not, but whoever does it knows what they're doing. Mine were all ATS-34; my suggestion is to go for it. BG42 is a great steel--I prefer it over ATS-34 any day.

I have 2 of the Woods/Irie folders, but none of his fixed blades. I did look at them in Vegas and all were top notch work. The only reason I did not buy one is that I am trying real hard to stay in a set area of collecting, Art folders. At that time I was getting ready to sell about 25 fixed blades out of my collection. Not only does he build a HQ knife,he also is a all around good guy

I had to fix the spelling. That why the edit.

I now have four of Mike's fixed blades including two of Paul's old ones, (hey Paul)

I can't recommend them enough. They are one of the best bargains out there.

I don't own any Irie knives but get to see some on a regular basis. A collector friend of mine has quite a few. The workmanship and
material are great for the price.

I see relatively new makers selling bead blasted knives with synthetic handles for twice the price of an Irie with Stag. Makes
no sense to me.

I've owned several of Mike's work and all were very good knives, cleanly ground and good fit up. Here is one that he made me a while back, a nice Hawkbill Sport #700

As mentioned, great knives for the money and a heck of a nice guy to boot.

Almost picked up one of his knives at the Blade show this year. As everyone else has stated they looked to offer great value for the price. I still want the Sport 300 "Green River skinner".

Wow, this old thread popped back up and I'm glad! I never get tired of talking about Mike Irie's stuff. When this thread first appeared, I had four of Mike's fixed blades. I now have six! I have a Sport #400, 100, two 200's, two AMK's, (these are NEAT!), and when I saw G2's #700, I fell in love with it and added one. IMHO, Mike's stuff is so quality and is the most underated AND best buy in custom knives today. Some guys complain because the handles are a little small but I've got shorter, stubby hands and they fit me well. They are also very unobtrusive to carry and SO handy. As an added bonus, Mike uses some of the best sambar stag around, (I love stag!).

As an example of what I'm talking about is I purchased a Wayne Hendrix small stag handled Y2K utility fixer a good while back. Wayne's stuff is good and he seems to be a very popular maker at a nice price point like Mike. I was pleased with it, (and STILL am truth be told), UNTIL I received my first Mike Irie. I put them side by side and examined them closely. It is no contest. Mike's stuff is superb in every way! Grind lines, quality of material, fit and finish, you name it! Wayne's knife is completely acceptable and is a great little design but Mike's stuff just shines. I'm not slamming Wayne here because I do like his little Y2K. Let's just say that this example of Wayne's work, (IMHO), compared to Mike's, is like comparing a nice Seiko to a Rolex.

As you can see, I'm a BIG fan of Mike's work! :)

P.S. I forgot about the Irie Hunter I got from Paul. That makes SEVEN Iries! Thanks Paul.:)

Here's some pics. The Hendrix small Y2K, Irie Sport #200, AMK and Irie Hunter. Here's the HUNTER:

And FINALLY, (WHEW!), an Irie AMK, (all metal knife). I really love these models. They're a little thicker than most intregals and really tough!

P.S. If anyone can tell me how to post MULTIPLE pictures in ONE post using the "browse" button, I'd sure APPRECIATE it!

Gene I don't think you can upload more than one in a single post, but you could edit your pictures and put more than one knife in the pic? Save some posting and would allow a nice comparison, side by side type thing...;)

Thanks for the pics though! Mike will surely appreciate your posts, I had talked with him a few days ago and he said he had a great time at the Guild this year and just loved the fact that it was back in FL, nice hotel and everything!

Thank's Gary. I guess I am one of Mike's best advertisements.:)
I tried editing in the pics as to get a side by side comparison but couldn't get it to work. As I said, I'm not the least computer savvy!

I bought a Sport 300 at a gun show last weekend. From the dealer, I learned Mike Irie is right here in Colorado Springs with me!

I'm going to wander over to his shop wiith a pocket full of money one of these days and see what happens...
