This persian style art fighter was created by Mike Ouimette who has been crafting knives, sculpture and other carved crafts for the past 25 years.

Mike lives the sparton life of the pioneer familiar to all from the late 1800's without the regular amenities of hydro, water etc.

This knife took him 140 hours to create. The components are his own special tool steel with a blade of 3/16" stock 4 5/8" long with overall length of 9" and 9 1/2" when sheathed.

There are 52 pieces of blade steel, 416 stainless for fittings, water buffalo horn scaled, nickle silver wire.

When removed from the sheath, the knife is of course handle heavy due to the amount of 416 used but when sheathed, the total package is in balance.

The bevels, file work and other fittings make this piece a wonderful work of handmade art. Every aspect is well thought out and well executed even down to the copper inlay in the sheath to protect the tip of the knife.

This knife now has a prominent display spot on my living room coffee table besde my Josef Rusnak art dagger.

I'm not familiar with this maker, but that is a stunning piece to be sure. I look forward to seeing that one up close and personal some time soon. Until then, any chance we could see a solo shot of the unsheathed knife alone?

guess you did not like the one that was part of the collage huh? :D ok here is a shot straight out of the camera

The collage is great - just a lot of visual information to process. This knife has a lot of tremendous detail.

That's one imaginative and inspiring piece to be sure.

I especially like the part about the spartan life style........

PS: you guys must visit the same art gallery!!!!

Wow! This is like a tour through a museum. LOTS to see! And all good.

hard to tell from the photo but the areas at the butt and the bolster have areas that slope either to the front or the back. Well, what is interesting is that the top at the front slopes the same as the bottom at the rear and visa versa. The file work is quite intricate and incredible. again straight from camera

yes, the blade is heat treated. all the knives I have except one are heat treated. I look to a knife to be a cutting instrument plus a work of art. I collect everything related to knives from hunters, to daggers, to Bowies, both forged and stock removal. check out my photo site for the rest of my collection.

Hello Murray,

That's a great looking knife (the Rusnak ain't shabby either). Can you give me more info on Mike Ouimette (address, e-mail?? or telephone??) because I might be tempted to ask him to make me a knife. I searched the web but I can't find anything.

Thanks,

Marcel

Murray,
That's an incredible piece.
I noticed on your photo page, you have no photos of friends or family!!LOL
heh, now that's funny!
But the workmanship = fit/finish is just incredible.

actually, Mike is impossible to communicate with. His rep is Ron Lockhart of franron@shaw.ca and even he can't contact Mike. A knife arrives mysteriously in the mail and Ron then sells it for Mike.

I use a lot of free pic hosting sites and one pay for site. the only items posted on the Epson site are my knives. For trips, family items etc I use some others and then again, Epson does offer private albums which if I recall, I have a few of for some family items.
