Hi everyone,
Well, a few weeks ago I received a very nice message from Mike -what he asked me blew me away - Mike had contacted me to ask if I would like to have a copy of his Book Gun Traders Guide to Collectable Knives

Well - do Bears do do-do's in the woods? Hell yes I would like a book - especially from Mike!!! What a way to start the day.... to be honest - its hard to say yes to such an amazing offer - but just how do you turn down such a great opportunity? :o

An immensely long wait - or so it seemed until the package arrived - even then it was held back by a staff member teasing me - as they see me checking my cubicle everyday - but I have it now-and I just wanted to show you guys and gals out there for two reasons...

1, To thank you very much Mike, I am not too sure whether you know just how immensely happy you have made me - and just how proud I was to received such an offer of such an esteemed member of the Knife World, to be able to do something like this in your lifetime would be just fantastic and I personally think you have done a marvellous job of this great book, Mike Thank You - thank you so very much.

2,
I also wanted people here to know ( especially in here, arguably one of the best places in the Traditional Knife World ) that there is a beautiful book that is available - one with such fantastic Photography, an extremely easy read, a well known Journalist who has written for Blade magazine, and Knife World has given us the opportunity to buy a beautiful book at the price of a Mac Donalds feed - honestly...this is a book that is jam-packed solid with stunning Photos of Stunning knives, it takes you through such things like:

How to show good Etiquette at knife shows - something that is most important..

In-depth look into the Topic of Swedges...something that we quite often have good discussions on here in Traditionals....

A whole Chapter on Jigged Bone - - uhuh - that chapter alone is worth the money folks...

History on the US Cutler scene

History on the Sheffield Cutler scene

Solingen Cutler Trade

Knife Pictorial photos and Valuations

Custom Knife Makers

This knife takes special place on my Bookshelf with some other Books I have - a few of them are precious books - this is most certainly one of them, I am not too sure if this sounds funny, but the inscription to me by you Mike means a great deal to me - thank you so much for this great book, and to my fellow Traditionalists, if you want a well presented book to guide you, and enthuse you you cant go wrong in grabbing a copy of this, I am sure that those of you who have read this book - or already own one will whole heartedly agree!

Here are a few pics - please forgive the absolutely non-related knives that I have hold pages down during the shoot :o
I hope you enjoy the photos, and I hope that you will enjoy the book in the near future...

Thank you for the inside page Mike - this makes the book to me even the more-so precious..

From the very start - this books grabs your interest and takes you straight into those wonderful knife offers - that once were....

Great photos- this book is so carefully laid out-its task-less to read, with valuations to set us on the right track..

This Chapter on Jigged Bone is just awesome!!

Full of facts, Photos...

Mike - Thank you so much kind Sir - thank you for being the such a generous, great person that you are.

Congradulations Duncan, the book looks fantastic, the kind I can spend hours reading;) I WILL BE BUYING THIS ONE;)

Mike a very generous gift, your inscription echoes so well about the "Legend" I know as Duncan;) He truly is a bright light and one that I am fortunate to call my friend as well:thumbup::cool:

I could say something sarcastic like...I'm glad it has such beautiful pictures for Duncan's sake but I'd NEVER do that:D My third grade teacher always told us that if you really like someone you end up teasing them, well then I guess what she said was true...I do like Duncan:p

Seriously...a terrific gift/gesture and a very sincere thank you. Good on you guy's:thumbup:

Congratulations Duncan, and well done Mike. I enjoyed the book very much

Great gesture on Mike's part, and just a wonderful book! Recently got mine in the mail, and couldn't believe how wonderful it is! Mike has captured all of that is wonderful and amazing about traditional knives. A great read, and a gorgeous picture book!
Nice work, Mike, and fortunate for you Duncan!

Dave

PS You do know she is going to be a collectors item 1 day Duncan? Signed by the Author and with your name it, how could it not be??? ;)

Duncan, thanks for the enthusiastic and detailed review and thanks Charlie, Dave, Paul, Mike and Jack Black as well for the kind words. Charlie provided me some of the pictures in the jigged bone section. I had a lot of help from friends that I can't thank enough.

That is a great gesture. We do have the nicest people in this hobby, don't we?

Mike, that's a real nice thing you did there and it seems it sent Duncan right into "kid in a candy store" mode, fun to see! And why not, that's a very cool book! This post sent me right over the edge. I've been meaning to order a copy but haven't gotten to it. Well, I just ordered one!

Thanks Mike for the great work!

I'm gonna throw my two cents worth in as well. This is a great book and destined to be a collector's item. I read mine cover to cover and thoroughly enjoyed it! Duncan's review is spot on! My only regret is that I didn't get mine signed! :D

For all you guys sittin' on the fence, don't set thar too long!

I also read my copy cover to cover and my favorite part was that of the jigged bone history. Overall a great book. I keep it next to my chair in the living room and look at it almost every day. Thanks again Mike.....good read for sure.
