I noticed that we hadn't heard from Mike Sastre for awhile, so I went looking and discovered that he has been banned from Blade Forums due to his business practices. I find this quite disheartening. Mike has been a fixture on these forums for more than twenty years. He is one of the forerunners of custom Kydex craftsmanship, setting some of the earliest standards and mentoring a lot of subsequent makers along the way. He continues to contribute to the industry with his sheaths and his innovations (Spyderco G-Clip and Cold Steel C-Clip, among others).

More significantly to us here, he has been a great asset to the Cold Steel subforum over the years, routinely offering historical insights and insider perspectives. His posts were seldom frivolous and always displayed levelheadedness and a good sense of humor. He has contributed much to my own knowledge of Cold Steel's products and history, as well as the history of the knife community at large.

I hate that this is the way things have turned out. Mike, if you're reading this, I hope that you can resolve your problems so that you're able to return to these pages once again. In the meantime, know that your voice will be missed.

Lynn couldn't accomplish this very impressive feat without his Southern Comfort!

He’s kinda crapped the bed. He’s been living on borrowed time. I’ve witnessed many negative posts about him over the years. It’s too bad.

This is why its not worth sending a knife to someone for a sheath its not worth the possible long wait or chance of not getting it back. Ive found lately with the cold steel sheaths I remove the nylon belt loop and add a left side tek lok; knife isn't dangling and it rides higher, just the way I like it...

I was afraid to open this thread thinking that some mishap had befallen Mr Sastre. I had first came across him at the now defunct Cold Steel Forums. He displayed a wealth of knowledge and wisdom regarding all things knife related. Hopefully whatever the issue is it can be resolved so that he can return some time soon!

it sounds like a sad turn of events.
but no matter what the cause
or reasons were, its only
decent to leave the wounded souls
in peace, now that a decision
had been taken by the mods and all.
lately its been a bad time for everybody.
lets not forget that we can't never
quite predict our respective futures.
fortunes or misfortunes have a way
of happening when we least expect it.
sometimes its a force of circumstance
that deals the fatal blow.
in life one can only wish or hope for the
the best possible outcome to come true.
but if it doesn't work out and becomes a
nightmare,
its time to consider a more productive way
for channeling all remaining resources, time
and energy....

The backstory would be nice, maybe keep OP from doing whatever he did, but that rarely happens on any forum.(Taking a cue from the Media I guess.)

Thanks for the link Blue Sky. Shame, but I am a huge proponent of these things being made public as they help protect others and help keep business honest. That said, it's a loss to the forum.

Sad to hear.

I bought a sheath from him 15+ years ago (long before I started making knives) for my Spyderco Perrin Street Bowie, and it's still the best kydex sheath I have in my collection.

Were any of his sheaths marked? I believe I have one that is marked Master Tanto on the back and it is a very well-made sheath for inside the waistband carry. RIP Mike,

I'm very sorry to learn of Mike's passing. From correspondence we had a couple of years ago, I knew that he was suffering badly with COPD and was in poor health, but I had hopes that he'd recover. He's beyond all that now.

He was a boon to these forums and the knife world in general. He will be missed. Thank you for the notice, guys.
