Mike Snody: Overlord Fighter!!!

Maybe not... From what I've seen of Snody's work it is real nice. Maybe a nice alternative for someone who wants a JSP-ish, Japanese influenced piece without the ridiculous pricing and wait times...

I've changed my mind about the content of my post....

Trollin' mr44 What a shame!!

You sure do watch a Forum closely for signs of life, considering it is only filled with over-priced items that you have to wait a long time for.

Why do you even post here at all?

It makes one wonder if there is medication that comes with that Socialized Health Care you guys have up there...

you get what you pay for.

now, i was looking to buy a mike snoddy kwaiken on robertsoncustomcutlery.com and it looked like a very nice tanto. but its not a JSP copy, its a japanese style knife from another maker.

if you want JSP, then buy JSP and dont bi+ch about prices.
i have 2 v-gar systems, and a omega3. all are well thought out and wonderfuly executed. if you want weapon systems buy JSP.

if you want a nice knife, then go to the hundreds of exelent makers around.

Just when I though everything had been said about this subject...
I´ll try to explain this situation as clearly as I can, using my limited English and my experiences as a knife collector, knife dealer, knifemaker and businessman.
When people will realize that JSP, Randall Martin, Phil Hartsfield, Ernest Emerson, and other still not very well known like Steve Ryan (i would bet on this maker´s success), Mike Snoody (saw his work by the first time at Les Robertson´s site and it seems to have a good price for its quality and materials, but still have to check it personally) and Bill Siegle (was4u at the Forums - had one of his chisel ground tantos and found it quite pleasing for it´s price), and even myself (couldn´t let myself out even thogh I´m virtually unknown in the States, because my work is of the smae basic style) all make chisel grond knives, probably all got first inspired in Phil Hartsfield pioneer work (I said probably, please note), whose inspiration is unmistakably Japanese, but our work is no more similar from one to another than a Browing P-35 pistol and a Glock in the same caliber!
Regarding prices, if you think a knife is too expensive, there is a classic solution for it, and it works not only with knives, but also with everything else: just don´t buy it! If the knife (or whatever) doesn´t sell, in time it will reach the price level you think it´s worth. If it keeps selling, you know you were wrong - for some quality you have not previously identified, like it´s extrinsic qualities, it´s rarity or even the status represented by the maker´s name - people are willing to pay for this item and you may end up having to pay even more now if you still want the knife than when you had your first oportunity to buy it and considered it expensive. It´s just a bet, like you are forced to bet on anything else in life! Just don´t keep sayng a given work is expensive just because someone makes a similar knife for less - when you act like that you are offending the maker and each of his customers. The cheaper knife may be better than it´s similar in every aspect but still there are people willing to pay more and wait more time for the other one enough to make him have a larger waiting list and a higher price. Are they all stupid? As a collector, I know exactly what a name mean and as a dealer, I found out how much a name is worth. Say that is not true and I can point out from memory a dozen makers making Loveless style knives for 1/10 of the price of a Loveless, with the same quality - all living in the US.
Of course, if I was only looking for a knife to use as a tool, I would look for the best price/quality compromise, with the smallest waiting time possible - but I never said I would be evaluating this situation as a knife user, did I?
So you can compare quality but don´t make price comparisons between makers when you´re after a given maker´s work. You will be better off buying what you like from the maker you have chosen.
There is no mistery:
If you think a given unknown or little known maker has a good work for it´s prices, bet on him. If he does not take off, you still have a good knife you like - if he does, though...
If you decide to put your money in the work of a well known maker, you alnmost can´t loose, but the inicial investment - the price you will pay for the knife - will surely be higher.
Just like anything else in life, as I said before!
I and the other little known makers should convince people that we make good knives will become well known makers and that our name is a good bet - and we should do so through not only the quality of our work but also through our business policy, advertising, etc. It is all part of the business (gee, and you though all you had to do was to stay in front of the grinder...)
Now don´t come and tell me that a well known maker´s prices will eventually go down because I have yet to see this happening, and I watch the behavoir of the American market very closely.
Have I made myself clear? Hopefully so. If not, just let me know and I´ll try to clarify my point of view. By the way, I think it is apropriate to mentiomn that this is my point of view only, and you can agree with it or not.

Full-time maker... finally!

Enough for an entire book! Now if Ronal reagn would move to the "Custom Knife forum", it would be a pleasure to talk about Mike snoody´s work.

Ivan,

Very nicely said.

But you see....."mr44" likes to pop in now and again and "troll", "flame" and then disappear to spread his discontent in other forums.

First of all, I would like to give a great big, THANK YOU to Mr. Ivan Campos.

There have been problems in the past in this Forum as regulars know, and they get dealt with in the manner they are delivered. I will not be talked down to, and I won't allow silliness to be the norm here.

I do this for fun, it is not a "job."

This is a very funny topic. The market dictates the price. Period.

Mark, I do not want to see "Mr.44" banned from BladeForums.Com, however, I would prefer he stay the hell away from this Forum if he has nothing positive to add.

If it continues, and all he has to add from time to time is derision, I will delete them.

I detest being heavy-handed, after all, his post above is still there, isn't it?

Yet I am not going to tolerate a bunch of nonsense. He can drop nonsense in the lap of another and if the other party wishes to tolerate it, fine.

This JSP Forum is a very interesting place, and I have tried to expand the depth it has to offer by adding a tad bit of History on the Evolution of "Tactical" or "Covert" Weaponry.

Unfortunately, not many people posted to it and I have no idea whatsoever how many people lurked and read it.

This Forum, because of the nature of the products, can discuss historical combatives and weapons, we can discuss tactics and self-defense...we can discuss these things because the products themselves are designed to save your life.

If you wish to come here and discuss [start a Thread, etc.] a topic like, "Folder vs. Fixed Blade," we can do that. James does not make folders...but it is a valid discussion to have. I have folders, and I have went to great lengths to explain them and defend them to some folks.

You can talk about alot in here...feel free.

But don't come in to drop clusterbombs and hit the afterburners on the exit. I will tag you.

Full-time knifemaker... finally!

That is one fine piece of steel, and it has more then its' fair share of beauty and class as well.

The execution looks flawless.

If I had $220.00 it would be sold!

You folks listen up and take this knife off this Man's hands...as a matter of fact, I might have a buyer for it...let me check tomorrow.

Thanks, Ronald Reagan

That is the first time I see one of this makers knives wich is not a guardless tanto.
It could very well be one of my designs! Except for the higher grind line, it looks pretty much like my work... so it can only look good! jsut kidding!
Pricewise, it is very inviting. I would get it if I had sold some more pieces - hope Don find you a buyer.

Once again, sorry to have posted another maker on this forum. Can we move this over to the for sale forum where it is posted?

Thanks

Rest easy, not only are you named after a good Prez., you were not being malicious. This can stay.
