Hey guys,

I have a custom made sword that I have personally owned for 10 years. I am looking to sell it and want to know if I can put it in the "for sale by individual" forum? I know that i am a dealer but this is not a production item that I have more than one of. I know this was discussed recently but I can't find the outcome, so I wanted to make sure so I don't do the wrong thing. Thanks.

You didn't say you were auctioning it. That's different.

It is NOT appropriate to announce your auctions in this forum.

The For Sale forum is for selling knives directly. It is intended as an alternative to auctions, not a billboard for them.

At any time, eBay has about 12,000 knives and swords for auction and the other auction sites add more. If every seller promoted his auction in the For Sale forum, that forum would collapse. Furthermore, those who are trying to use that forum for its purpose, would be lost in a sea of auction promotions.

The auction sites are well known. Certainly, eBay is. All of the auction sites have excellent search engines. If you give your auction a reasonable title, then those who are interested in such items can find it without an ad in the For Sale forum.
