I love small interesting & beautiful slip-joint folders that I can easily carry every day in my pant pocket no matter where I go. Picked up one last year from Mike Vagnino at BLADE http://www.fototime.com/21C5ED01C2A57C6/orig.jpg and another one this year:

Mike did the engraving which makes this little oval pattern single blade folder special. Nice job! See for yourself. OAL is 5 1/4 in. Blade is 2 1/4 in. Closed length is 3 in. Weight is 1.5 oz. - heavy enough to keep track of if sitting, getting in and out of the car etc. but light enough to never be a burden.

You'll see some Mike's more significant work in Coop's BLADE Show 2011 thread. Be sure and check out the new Vagnino "Everflush" back-spring design where-by opening and closing the slip-jointed blade produces no distortion of the back spring/spine! It is a very cool, and I think significant, innovation.

Mike operated out of the Artisans of Cutlery booth with Tom Ferry, Jon Christensen and David Lisch - the four Artisans. The work these guys do is uniformly high level. I also bought one of Jon's knives - a beautiful folding dagger of botanical inspiration (a sheaf of branches forms the handle with amazing damascus revealing branches, leaves and even veins in the leaves forming the blade). Coop shot that one for Jon which is how I found out about it. Being the 'runner' back and forth from the show room to Coop's studio, I went out and picked it up from Jon so it could be photographed. As the weekend progressed I tried not to think about it - tried not to buy it - you know the head-game of which I speak. ;) But I was not successful. David and Tom also had great stuff for sale too. I even got one of their T-shirts. Guess you could say I'm a fan.

I'm yammering on about this because I think the Artisans of Cutlery are pursuing a unique business model that concentrates their considerable talents in a nice booth setting at the show. Who-so-ever buys a knife gets entered into the drawing for a give-away knife. In effect I bought two chances and ultimately my name was drawn for it. I'll post that one in the future. You can't go wrong with these guys and they always have something for everybody from a style and design perspective.

This was a tidy little folder with great action and a cool theme. Very sheeple friendly, too. Who couldn't like this!??

A perfect and non-conventional display, running bottom to top. When you own it, you do as you want. :D

Thanks Buddy it was good to talk with you at the booth and we where all thrilled when your card came out of the box. what a fun show looking forward to all the pics.

Very cool knife, Buddy. Be great to have that knife in one of Paul's pocket sheaths.

Would love to see the one that had you wanting. Please post the botanical knife when you have pics.

The Artisans booth was a neat idea. Interesting to see if it the themed, shared booth idea catches on.

Congrats Buddy, that's a cool little folder. I have to agree with you that the Artisan booth was stellar. I got to chat a bit with Dave and was duly impressed with his contributions. Those guys are smokin :)

Great acquisition Buddy! Michael makes produces some of the finest folders on the market and this one is a beauty. Very cool to see his engraving and I had the pleasure of seeing this one at the ACE booth. Those guys really have it going on and are a pleasure to talk to. Congratulations on a fine addition.

Good snag Buddy.
Mike makes some of the cleanest and most classic-lined folders I've seen. I got a chance to look over the flush-spring model at the booth this year and Me like! I also drooled over that Christiansen folding dagger you picked up. Really cool!

A particularly nice and unique piece Buddy and as usual you have captured it wonderfully.
The ACE guys are really doing a great job in creating fresh and innovative designs and taking an innovative approach in marketing custom knives in general.
I’m very pleased to say they will be collectively creating a “SET” of knives in a display box for our 2013 Cancer Research Benefit offering.

Hey Buddy. Again thanks for you support and the kind words. My wife Marcie has been doing the design work for my engraving. I'm always surprised with what she comes up with. And thanks to the rest of you for you comments. It was another stellar show. By the way I have Tom Ferry to thanks for the Everflush spring. Quit a unique approach to the slip joint.
