Can't match RogerP's excellent post, but I obtained Mike Williams' smaller bowie. It is the first mastersmith knife I bought and the most expensive knife I own at the moment. I had avoided talking to any of the mastersmiths until Saturday afternoon being a novice and seeing the prices that they wanted for their knives, most being out of my league. However, I found many of them extremely friendly and willing to talk about their work and prices after I found the courage to make contact with them.

This is a pic of Mike Williams and me with his smaller bowie - the larger one won an award.

Jim Crowell and daughter Kate. Everyone knows Jim is one of the best mastersmiths around and his work is in the highest demand. I ordered a competition cutter from him after talking with him.

Jerry Lairson, one of four to make mastersmith at this show. His competition cutter is shown below. Have one of those on order also. Unique because it incorporates a tuning fork in the blade. Another great guy to talk to.

Tim Potier. Excellent work and also friendly and knowledgeable.

Hey George,

Thanks for posting up those pics - I hope everyone that was there with a camera will do the same.

You got yourself a real fine knife there from a top-shelf maker. I got to play with that one a little bit and like all of Mike's knives it felt real good in the hand. Enjoy!

Well done, George!

I held that knife too and really liked it. In fact, due in part to the way it felt in my hand, I rather preferred it to the larger one.

You'll enjoy your cutter from Jerry Lairson too. I've got one myself, and use it from time to time out in my woods. It can cut like crazy. By the way, the guy to Jerry's right in that picture, wearing the blue shirt, is John Horrigan, who also received his MS stamp at the show.

Guys,

Just wanted to let you know that my name is not George. If you visit Auschwitz in Poland someday you will see this sign posted in Polish and English, a most fitting quote from George Santayana.

When I left the memorial/museum that was once a death camp, it left a permanent imprint in my memory. I did not sleep well that night. I hope you all will visit it too someday.

Sorry about the name thing.
So we can get it right next time, what is your name.Mine is Randy.
