I don't need anything huge, 1200 to 2000" would be plenty for my application. I haven't looked at what's available on the mil-surp market in a few years. Would prefer something like the MOLLE system that can be expandable.

Thanks for the help.

I was looking for a slightly larger day pack, mainly so that I could carry more water. But I didn't want to spend too much. Also I like the old three colored desert camo as it's relatively subtle. I ordered one of these and should have it this week. US Military Surplus SDS Large Assault MOLLE Backpack (I didn't want to post the link, but I found them used in good condition for $30-$40)

Good find brother! I've found that just because its military surplus that it doesn't mean its inexpensive. New gear always rocks though.

Prices seem to vary widely on similar packs to this one. I found used ones as high as $100, and new ones go for $170. So I think I got a good deal. Hopefully it gets here before the weekend so I can test it out. If it pans out as well as I hope, this will be the 3-day type pack that I've been looking for.

You could get the ILBE assault pack. It is the Marines' small pack. If you aren't getting one for cheap though, I would favor non-surplus packs, of which there are many for great prices, lightly used.

Thanks for the pic coaldigger. The BK2 gives me more perspective on the size as well. I was hoping to have mine by now, but I just got an email saying it shipped. Can't wait to load it up and try it.

Thanks for the replies. I volunteer with a SAR team and I always am looking for "the one" when it comes to packs!

Mine arrived yesterday, and I'm really happy with the size of it. For all the buckles and straps, it's not too heavy either. I will get it out this weekend to test it out, but it seems like just the pack I was looking for.

I have the same patrol pack, except it's more fully outfitted. The quality is excellent, especially the zippers!

I added canteen and magazine pouches on both sides, and a fanny pack at the bottom to store my lightweight sleeping bag or a blanket. After this photo I added two flashbang grenade pouches on the narrow straps above the canteen pouches. You can see those in the last photo if you look closely.

Great pics! Where did you get the fanny pack? With that addition, this could easily move into a week long bag. I like that. I know what you mean about the zippers, they are huge and seemingly bomb proof.

I see the fanny packs on ebay for about $10 shipped. Do a search for MOLLE fanny pack. It comes with a waist strap that you can tuck into a space made for that. There are MOLLE attachment points at the bottom of the backpack that match up with the fanny pack.

Found one and ordered it, thanks! This pack is turning out much more versatile than I thought it would be, awesome!
