Just got a Nyala, love almost everything about it.

The top/rearmost portion of the handle extends beyond the scales just a millimeter or two more than I like. I know it's gonna bug me if I don't fix it.

I basically need to grind or sand off the material and round it off to better match the edge of the micarta.

What's my best course of action?

The knife is a keeper, a user or at least it will be once I get it fixed. I'm not worried about reselling it but I don't want to ugly it up too much either.

Ideas? Reccos?

Are you talking all around the top and bottom edge of the tang, or only at the end, at the lanyard hole?

Only near the very end.

I know I could file, grind or even sand it off but I'm wondering if one method might work better. I know it's gonna screw up the finish too.

J JohnWE my recommendation is new scales, then. They can be shaped/extended to cover the hole (drilled for a lanyard or not). This will fill in the area you want, and not jack up your knife. If they are done with fasteners, the knife could always be put back to original. Or they could be pinned and epoxied.

For example...
