Hey fellas,

Another Hog and I are trying to determine if a blade is an original Heavy Duty or a more recent Miliganza AD in black/black.

Is there an easy way to tell for sure without calipers? Like comparing them to another blade?

thanks!

My HD was .20, while the milies were .187

I don't think the black on black millies had the Busse logo and the HD did?

damn, the "Duty" appears to live on strong...

I need to look up the Heavy Duty and Miliganza Active Duty

Eli - I've had the same problem telling them apart. I have a black/black AD and a black/black HD that are almost identical except that the AD is .20 and the HD is .21 and talon hole on the HD is a little smaller.

I too would be interested to know if there is any other way to distinguish these two blades.

I am curious too - I have two recent Busse-logo ADs, a Lep and a Black Tiger, that both seem to be the same thickness as my Muddy GW and Black Tiger GW which are both supposedly .20 thick! (I'm using a cheap manual caliper and aging eyes to compare them.) Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide more informed information on this HD vs AD question. Best Wishes to All,
"Bloody Bill"

hmmm, even with calipers it might be hard to know...

what about that skunk trick --- the one where you spit in the wind and chant those words over and over???

Eli,

There's some info in this thread

The best way without calipers is the size of the talon hole, as ceiw stated.

The plunge line is higher on the HDs than MADs.

and I think Steelnut is right, the blk/blk MADs were sterile, I'll check when I get home, I know my HDs have logos.

If I "Westernize" one of these with some old timey Old West stag grips, does it become...

(wait for it)... a Howdy Duty?

(Sorry, folks, it's been a 72-hour work week so far)

I had a Heavy Duty and a couple of Mili's at the same time. One distinguishing feature was that the distal taper started earlier on the Heavy. The Mili's saber grind was a good bit further out and maintained the stock thickness of the blade closer to the tip. Because of this, the Heavy actually had a finer point to it (not that it would matter much in use).
