So it's time to sharpen the Mili again, and this time it's with the Sharpmaker. So, do I use the 40 degree or 30 degree? It's seems to me that 30 is in order.

But does anyone here suggest 40 degrees? ..and if so, why?

40 is recommended by Sal himself in the video. He says it's better for edge retention.

40 works well for choppers and micro bevels.

You want the the Sharpmaker setting to be greater than the primary bevel. Unless you have reprofiled it to less than 30 degrees inclusive, go with 40.

40 is best for general utility. 30 is superb for food prep and light duties, but the edge don't last too long and it becomes more fragile. My Caly3 has suffered a lot when I used 30 on it... And VG-10 tends to be tougher than the S30V on your Millie.

I would use the 20 degree setting. It's not in the manual, you have to stack stuff under one side get it to work. (alternating sides)

IMO 20 degrees is good for EDC, and 30 degrees if you anticipate small amounts of edge damage.
But that's just me.:p

I have 5 s30v millies, all of them have bevels quite a bit over 30 degrees inclusive but under 40 degrees. So unless it has been reprofiled to 30 degrees or less, you won't be hitting the edge on the 30 degree setting.
