Mili, Para, Manix or Police?

I'm leaning towards the Military as my keeper. Just for the heck of it, what's your favorite "one knife" among the Military, Paramilitary, Manix or (carbon fiber) Police as an EDC/Defensive?

I'd rather carry the Para as an EDC than the others. Manix is probably my favorite of the four. I don't care for the stainless Police, and will only buy one if they are released with a better handle again, or I find a good deal on one of the older ones, preferrably the flat ground G10 version I've heard about.

Of the four, I've carried the Military, Police and now the Manix that I just got in a KF passaround. The Military I had had a huge and heavy handle, but the old Military I just got in a trade is light as a feather, almost as light as my Endura. The Police I had for a passaround had SS handles which I hated. Just got the Manix, and it is a beast. So, for now, I would have to go with the Military. Only carried it for one day, the one I now own, but it really performed that day.

That is a tough one :) I think that I would favor the Military overall due to the light weight, razor sharp big blade, great ergonomics, and flat carry profile :D

As an EDC, it's definately the Para for me. The Police and Manix are bit too big and heavy and the Para's got the compression lock over the Millie.

i vote para also with millie close 2nd but i havent used a manix yet
the police is just to thin in the handle for me

Tough choice!
All of them are outstanding knives, but if I had to choose only one, it would be the MILITARY.

The Manix is very nice but is also just a little too heavy IMO (1.9 oz more than the Military), and it has a shorter blade than the Military.

The Para-Military also does'nt have enough blade (the actual cutting edge is less than 3") and it weighs just .27 oz less than the Military.

I have never seen the Carbon Fiber Police, but I do have a G-10 Police, and I prefer the Military's blade design over the Police blade-design.
Plus, as a military veteran, I feel comfortable with a knife that says "MILITARY" on the blade.
I never felt comfortable with the word "POLICE" on my knife.

Good luck,
Allen.

para, it is the only one i have, but i have used a manix and handled all of them. I guess my wallet speaks for me since its the only one of the 4 that i have.

I like the Military the best too. Only thing is the blade on mine is a bit (1/16") over 4", which makes it illegal to carry in my neck of the woods. I think I saw somewhere too that SPyderco was not putting "Military" on the blades anymore.

Military all the way... When Manix came out, everybody raved about it. But now that the dust fell down, we can now see all the great value of this knife. And yes, mine, a newer one, has a spydie logo instead of the Military marking. It has been removed because it could put someone in trouble in court if it has been used as SD (Why do you carry military gears when walking in this city?" ).

Yes, a little bit big for EDC, but that is why we carry a Ladybug or Jester on our key chain, Aren't we all ?

And as SD, this is the fastest one. I don't even use the hole, just a very light flip o' the wrist...

Having owned a Manix, handled a Police and a Military, and owning 2 Paramilitarys, guess my preference ;)

All 4 are great knives, but the first 3 (in my list above) just seemed too big to carry for EDC. The Paramilitary has the large handle, yet the blade is smaller - but certainly big enough for anything I would want to do (even SD, if for some crazy reason that becomes necessary - where I live, probably more likely animals than human, but you never know).

Plus, the Paramilitary is lightweight compared to the Manix. Yes, the Military is lightweight too, but the blade is too long, as is the Police blade...

Right now it's the Military/SE. As soon as the Manix comes fully serrated the Military will be replaced faster than a spyder drop...

Those are all good choices. I have all of those knives except the Para, and have been quite impressed with them.

The Military was my all time favorite folder until recently; I've recommended that knife so many times I've lost count. For a long time, my EDC was 2 Militarys. I removed the Military from my EDC after having to send 2 back for serious lock problems. Both of the ones that had problems were the new S30V models. (My old 440V model is still rock solid after 5 years.) I don't really feel that comfortable with the liner lock on the Military anymore. Maybe I'm just really unlucky and got 2 bad ones.

The Police is a great knife, although I see mine as more of a weapon than a utility knife. It's a tad bit bigger than your other choices, and that needs to be considered.

The Manix is my current EDC. This is the only factory knife to really impress me as of late. The lock is rock solid and it cuts like a laser. The handle feels like it was made for my hand, and the clip is fully reversable for tip up/tip down, left/right carry. The only possible negative the Manix has is the weight issue. I don't mind the extra weight, but this might be a problem for others. I feel like the Manix is a good compromise between SD and utility.

Overall, I would suggest you try the Manix. I think it has the strongest lock of the bunch, and is a well rounded folder.

If you can find a Military to handle before you buy to ensure lock integrity, I have no problem recommending it.

The Manix. It's like a modern suped up Buck 110, with a pocket clip and better grip. Classic and awsome!

Thanks for the input. They're all obviously great. Just got my Military and I'm pretty sure that it can't be beat. Light, fits like a glove, pointy and sharp and a nice size.

I really liked the Manix and if it hadn't of been so huge I'd probably still have it. I really wish Spyderco would make the same exact knife only smaller. By that I mean keep everything the same except make it inbetween a Delica and Endura in size. Just reduce it's overall foot print to make it more socially acceptable. Something like the same length and footprint as the Centofante III or Scorpious maybe.

The Para-Mil is also a super knife but I'm such a lockback fan at heart really. I think the lockback is always going to be my first love in locking folders. I just can't get away from carrying one for too long. I've tried but just like tip up carry when it comes to pocket clips I always drift back sooner rather than later. I carry tip down now and then, and I have liner locks and bearing and now even an axis lock too but still lockbacks win out for me.

I've owned several Military's,a couple Police,One Para-Military and my next purchase will be a Manix.Out of the above,I liked the Military the best so far.Only time will tell.tom. :)
