I am going to be staying on a military base in San Diego, CA as a civilian soon. Are tgere any specific knife carry laws that I should be aware of that differ from CA laws already?

Thanks

Matt

Official answer: every base will have its own regulations, check with the Provost Marshal before arriving
Real world answer: nobody is going to say anything about a pocket folder

Edit: if you're going to be on the base for work, you can easily explain whatever you are carrying if it is job related

That's what I figured. I would be surprised if I could not carry a knife on base that I could carry around CA

I've lived on 6 different bases (2 Air Force, 4 Army) and they've all had a 3" limit on knives kept in base housing/barracks. That said, it's never something I've seen enforced, and you can easily purchase much larger knives at most PXs and military clothing stores. It's also common to be issued items with longer blades, which, aside from bayonets, nobody seems terribly concerned about.

Hi everybody. First post here....
I doubt anyone would say anything as long as you're talking about a pocket knife or something like it. I'm in the Navy and it is pretty common for sailors to carry their pocket knives around especially on board ships. You should be OK as long as you're not walking around with a machete. :D

Yeah, everything you said was correct. I have yet to meet the MP that made me measure my knife.

San Diego county follows California knife laws. How do I know? I've lived in San Diego for the past 43 years. And I have a lawyer who keeps me informed on such matters. From my experience, SD is a great place for carrying knives. I EDC an openly carried fixed-blade as well as a folder.

Military bases follow UCMJ and US code....but, as was said, they don't typically care...now, if you're driving 23kph on the FOB, they'll treat you like Charlie Manson

Just wear your reflective belt and you'll be fine...
