Anyone know if some of the "newer blades" like the S110V or 204P will swap out into the older Fluted titanium handles?
I'm not looking to do any mods to the blades or scales, but wondering if things like the pivot screw only having one torx
head on the older ones instead of both sides being a torx on the newer ones? And are the pivot holes and hardware the exact same sizes?
Does the frame lock on the fluted titanium meet the blade face the same? Things like that, anyone with experience, I'd appreciate hearing, Thanks

I was also thinking about installing the S90V blade from my smurf blue Bento box exclusive into the fluted ti Millie for an ultimate knife, but changed my mind. Because I am more likely to use a G10/S90V knife than a fluted ti model. And I want that S90V to work for me. But sometimes I still think I should do it.

Several years ago, I tried swapping an S90V blade from the Bento box exclusive into a blue fluted titanium Millie from the same general time period. It did not work. I have not tried to swap a newer blade into the older handles, but given what I encountered when I tried two blades made about the same time, I don't think you will be successful. That said, you probably won't know for sure until you try.

3 out of 4 times it will work with the CQI’ed fluted Military. I have fluted Militaries in 110v, 204p, and Rex 45. On the Rex 45, i had to grind off some of the steel insert as it was rubbing the blade.

The old fluted Military will swap similarly with old G10 ones. Remember that you can have - among others - S90V and Cruwear in the non-CQI’ed Military :)

Thanks for the replies, do you remember what the issues where? Are the pivot wholes the same size? Are the lock faces cut to different angles?

Shown this before ... my favorite Military below:

I've done Millie blade swaps successfully nd unsuccessfully. The lockbar insert screw is what got in the way of the unsuccessful attempts.

Speaking of blade swaps, I think it would be "cool" if Spyderco developed a way to easily remove/clean/replace the blade of a knife, like CRKT did w/Ken Onion's "Field Strip Technology" (FST).

FST is probably patented but Spyderco could use it under license or perhaps develop one of their own design which does not conflict w/FST.

If they did, then they could make a Millie (or any other model) with a line of "extra" blades in different types of steel that could be easily swapped out whenever the user wants.

There are almost certainly legal/technical/mfging/cost and other issues that would make this impractical or impossible but it's an idea that I do not believe has been discussed in the context of Spyderco knives previously.

Just food for thought . . .

I think it would be cool if Spyderco were willing to replace blades that were damaged (as does Buck), even for a significant fee. I have a Military that was missing about 1/16" of the edge when I got it (may have been an error from the factory, but I didn't realize it until I had another to compare). Over time, it's missing enough blade for the edge to be really thick. The rest of the knife is in great shape, so it would be cool to re-blade it.

IIRC, the blade on one knife wouldn't open to a locked position while on the other one, the lockbar was to short to lock it into position. Again, this was many years ago so I may not be remembering correctly. What I do remember was looking closely at the two knives and thinking that there was no obvious solution to the issue. Trust me--I really wanted it to work and if the fix would have been easy (or at least presented itself), I would have found a way to make it work if at all possible.

I have switched new cqi millie blades from a non Ti handle into a Ti handle and it worked. Ive also done it old cqi to old cqi. Never old to new or new to old

These two are so incredibly bad-a$$ that I no longer have any other Millies, or have any desire to until a K390, Maxamet or MagnaCut version is released. I’ve successfully swapped a half-dozen Militaries over the years and generally stick to swapping pre-CQI and post-CQI models amongst themselves, although as pointed out earlier, sometimes you just need to bring along the newer stepped pivot/screws along with the CQI blades. Hope that helps.

Perfect! THATS the info I was looking for.:thumbsup:

Btw, guys, when you say CQI’ed S90V Military, you have to clarify. The Bento Box is a hybrid, CQI’ed pivot, and old scale screws. The newer CF/Ti version also has new scale screws.

The source of my S90V blade in the fluted Ti scales was the most recent KW exclusive with CF/Ti handles, which is the handle setup for my M4 one (the M4 blade came from the ugly natural G10 BHQ exclusive). The fluted Ti handles are also from an improved CQI version right before they were discontinued, as you can tell from the larger lanyard hole. So both knives are results of swaps with fully-CQI’d models.

The Bento Box S90V one was not involved, and yes that one had some partial CQI improvements. The first fully CQI version was the KW 204P version. Sorry for any confusion.
