Military break in period?

I received my second spyderco yesterday, an orange military. My first is a gayle bradley, which is crazy smooth and requires very little force to open. The military is pretty smooth, but takes more force to open. I have the pivot turned to the point where the blade is centered and there is no play. Its fine how it is, but im just wondering, does it get better with time?

Yes. They get smoother with use. I did not really notice it until I handled a new one and then instantly recalled how mine was when I got it.

never had a millitary but most of my spydies seem to have a break in period. I'm still working my new g-10 dragonfly, its got such a stiff action.

Honestly my Mili has been very easy and smooth from the get go. It almost feels like it's assisted compared to the Police I just got, that thing is stiff!

Sorry to necro (if a week old thread counts), but I wanted to tack on to the end of this.

I just got a new Millie, and I have to agree with the OP, its by far the stiffest Spyderco I have owned. I have adjusted the pivot, lubed the pivot, and spent some time opening and closing it, and it still seems super stiff.

I was curious, because I can't see like in my Tenacious/Persistence, does the Millie have Bronze Washers? That might explain the stiffness a bit. The Millies I have handled in stores have all been super smooth, so it makes me a bit curious as to why mine is so sluggish.

I think they have brass/bronzish washers. I cleaned my mili after a guy that was using it in front of my dropped it into some fine dirt, almost like talc powder. I guess it felt awkward to him and he panicked a bit...LOL!
I love erosion.

Yes, it has PB washers

Yes, it will get very smooth

Yes, it needs time to break-in

No, its not your last one ;)

I think the Bradley just set the bar for you as far as smoothness since it was your first spyderco. When I first got my Military I thought I has just bought the smoothest opening knife in the world. Then later on I got my Gayle Bradley and was just amazed. I ended up getting rid of the Gayle Bradley and went back to the Military. After having the Military put away for awhile it seemed like it was stiffer to open. I even sent it to Spyderco for inspection. Nothing was wrong with it, I just got spoiled by the Bradley :P
