I just got in a trade a military Cpm 440v,
I know the blade is flat ground, but is the edge convex ground or can I sharpen it on my sharpmaker?

You can sharpen it on your Sharpmaker. However, if it's dull, you'll be spending a lot of time doing so, unless you have the diamond rods.

Personally, I prefer the edge I get using a fine diamond hone (DMT) with 440V (in my case, a Starmate), with just a couple of strokes on the white stones to cut off any burr.

My wife has a Kershaw Boa, and it's one made from CPM 440V. And yes, it's hard to sharpen, at least, it takes quite a while. To b fair though, it really holds an edge.

I have an Edge Pro, and I used the 180 grit stone just fine. Ben Dale has also sold me a diamond stone, but it was not needed.

I think hobbies should be savored. Pick a nice Sunday afternoon with friends watching a football game. Then get out the sharpeners and have a few hours of sharpening blades and swapping lies. The 440V will take some time, but I'd rather be sharpening than working.

Ditto.

The Military is flat ground as mentioned, and factory edge is just a flat bevel. The prior owner could have put a convex on it, and if so, you'll have to learn how to sharpen a convex edge if you want to preserve it. Try the search engine. Or put sandpaper over a soft backing (rubber mouse pad) and pull blade towards you.

Buy a really coarse hone, easily found at any hardware store, commonly called hocky-puck or axe hones. Use this to adjust the edge under the angle on the Sharpmaker. This doesn't have to be accurate of precise, it is just a shaping. If you want to hone at a final angle of 15 on the Sharpmaker, set the edge with the coarse benchstone at 13 degrees for example. Now when you hone on the Sharpmaker you are just hitting the very edge and it will sharpen very fast and should only require a few passes unless the edge is heavily chipped out or otherwise suffers visible damage. If this is the case you go back to the coarse hone.

I get the best results on 440V by useing the brown stones only and not useing the white at all.30 degree setting seems to work best.
Just got finished sharpening my s30v Military to a hair poping edge.
