I found a great deal on the bay for a brand new military cpm cruwear! Man was it painful having to wait a week for it to arrive. So today it came and I'm in love. I have a couple questions that i was hoping you guys could help answer. First, it is super tight and hard to open, i can't flip it open with either my thumb or middle finger so i was going to try loosening it but my biggest torx is a 15, it's to small. What size is it? Second, i wanted to try cutting up some deer meat with it but i am worried about the blood corroding the blade. Do you think I'd be ok to use it as long as i washed it off after i am done?

Yes , when you finished cuttingup your deer , just wash with hot water and some detergent .Dry before putting away.
Who makes this knife ??

It's a Spyderco Military in Cruwear steel.
The pivot I think is a 15, if your drive isn't working then you might need to get a new bit.

The pivot is a T15 on my Cruwear. The action on mine was a bit tight until I slightly loosened the stop pin screws. They have more of an effect than you may think.
Congratulations on a great new knife!

My bit is brand new, there is alot of play and i don't want to strip the screw, maybe kobalt makes their 15 smaller than other manufacturers

Thanks spketch! I'll kind of scared to get it dirty and start using it because it is so beautiful! Have you used yours alot?

Not all Torx bits are created equal, same goes for hex (Allen) wrenches. The most consistent ones I have found are Wiha brand, most of their tools are high precision.

Big fan of wiha here too. All T15 bits should be the same size, but the cheaper brands have looser tolerances. Good move not forcing it and stripping the screw.

Really? I just found a different brand t15 and it fit. Now it flips great! Still a little snug but if i loosen it to much then the blade wiggles a tad.

Glad you found the sweet spot. I recommend keeping it on the tighter side because I've noticed the lock up is much more strong with a tighter pivot on just about any liner lock. The good news is that SPyderco makes their liner locks the right way.

Congratz on the new knife...I've really been enjoying mine, and the same goes for its' Manix2 cousin. And the blue on the handle is from my jeans...I've used mine for food prep and it has developed zero patina so it doesn't seem to be especially corrosion prone, but having that said I was sweating extensively at work one week (Hence the blue) and there were a few tiny rust pits that came off on my thumbnail, but that was after 10+ hours of constantly sweating on it for several 5 days.

Weird, mine is a T10!

Which model do you have? I specified Cruwear in my earlier post because that one and the few later s30v models I've had were all T15. My serrated 2004 model used a hex screw and the blue s90v takes a T10 and has the two pivot screw/bushing setup.

I don't have any experience with the other models (yet) :-)

Glad you got it tweaked to your satisfaction! I've used mine almost exclusively since it arrived a year ago. The handle gets dirty quickly but try to forget what color it started as and hopefully it won't bother you.
I don't cut up food with my folders, more out of concern for the food than the knives, but I have no stains or corrosion on the blade from normal edc use. I gave it a coating of eezox shortly after getting it and no special care since.
Enjoy!

@3rdgenrigger, nice pics! And thanks for the info, I'm glad i don't have to worry about it rusting too much. What is eezox? I was thinking about getting a tuff cloth to wipe it down. Does anyone know what the hardness of cpm cruwear is? How has the edge held up over t the year you've been using it @spketch?

Eezox is one of the best rust inhibitors on the market, and almost certainly overkill. It's also not food safe.
No complaints with the steel at all, but I don't do much heavy or prolonged cutting these days, or controlled testing. I do find it a bit easier to sharpen than s30v.

The Millie isn't really designed to flip like other knives made for that purpose. There have been a lot of people that complain about stripped screws and other problems after trying to loosen pivots up. In addition, going out of alignment happens as well. Be aware if you do it you should know there is lock tightening stuff put in when it's finished and adjusted. You might want to heat it a bit before you just torque it until it opens. It might need a trip in for repair which wouldn't be covered by warranty in this case.

The good thing is you have an excellent knife made to last. I had to wait over a decade before I got a knife in Cruwear. It's excellent steel and does pretty good all around.

Keep any acidic or salt type stuff from staying on the blade and it should do fine. I don't bother to "force a patina" on mine and don't really need to. As Mete stated just wash it , dry it, then lube or silicone if you want. ( I use clear liquid silicone from A.G.Russell ) Most times a wipe down with a silicone gun cleaning cloth from the big box stores sporting goods section AFTER cleaning off the corrosive stuff is all it needs to keep it shiny.

Spyderco hit the sweet spot on that variant of the millie. Good choice.

Awesome! Thanks for the info guys, I'm really excited to start carrying it and see what she can do!
