Military detent issue (?)

Hey

Im loving my millie, but ever since i got it a couple of years ago i have had an "issue" nagging at me. Never got to asking the question anywhere, and never found an answer on too it.
So, here goes. The detent ball on the Liner lock, is it supposed to "move"? like, it is an imbedded steel ball, but on my lock, it is "stuck" only gliding over the surface of the blade because it is made of hardened steel.
My knife does feel gritty some times, but i have no other millie to compare it to. some say their millie is silky smooth. or that they become silky smooth over time because of "work in"..but my millie is a hard use folder, that some times just feels gritty.
I do clean it often, and apply tuff glide to it now and then. and it is "smooth" after that...but i am just wondering if the smoothness i am experiensing is not as smooth as i should be.

i am maby overthinking this, but i need an answer :)

Thanks!

Falch

ah, Thanks, then all is good. The best solution to this, other then actualy asking the question should have been to buy another millie...but then again that specimen could also have been "defect", so i would have been forced to buy yet another one...and another one...hmmmm

Hhhmmm, nothing wrong with buying all you can just to inspect the detent. :D

If I feel a knife isn't as smooth as it could be, I'll drop a bit of oil on the detent ball itself. This works wonders in opening smoothness.

Does the knife cut? Does it lock solidly? If so then it's not a defect. Cmould just need a bit of oil, h ard to say.

i did write "defect"..but yeah, just had to clean it again...wife had used it for watermelon, without telling me. she had cleaned it, but the juice had come into the pivot area. sticky stuff.
But, after i got a para millie in the mail today, i noticed that the pivot ball on lnib para was round, but on my millie there has become a "flat spot" grinded into the ball.
It is smooth and all after a clean and oiling, but i guess there is a bigger surface area rubbing against the blade now than when it was new making it a little more proned to get gritty/sticky.

but all in all...DAMN that para is smooth compared to the millie...:D

Try washing the knife in warm soapy water. Rinse it thoroughly, and use compressed air to remove the remaining water. A few dabs of gun or mineral oil should smooth it out.
