Just got in a new Military S30v, what a beauty. This knife has cass, detail is great, fit and finish excellent.
I would like to polish or blast the pivot pin head to give more snap.
The question is, will I mess up the alignment or blade position by taking the pivot pin out?

Not if you mark the eccentric pivot pin so that you install it in the same way. If you want to polish the front of the pivot, of course, you will lose your mark, so you can do this in another way:
remove the screw from the back side, and then use some white paint to mark a point on the edge of the pivot pin against the side of the hole. In that way, you can find this mark again when you put it back together, and not lose the current setup of the linerlock.

But, even if you miss this point, you can still find a good solid lockup after a 5-minute trial-and-error of rotating the pin position and trying the lock.

Thinking about this again, probably it is easier to just mask the G10 around the pivot pin head with some good masking tape or a qood quality self-adhesive film that will protect the handle, and then use various Dremel polishing bits (or whatever) to do the work without removing the pin.

I think you're correct Torz, the newer models don't have the eccentric piviot pin, but it was a good pick up on that point Costas. Ron

All,

So does this mean that I can campletely take apart a new mili without risk of destoying the action? Just wondering as I have already gummed up my pivot and I can hear it grinding. Hot water got most out, but I can still hear it in there!

Be careful,I think some of the first S30Vs did have it.My CE has a Torx head like the 440Vs and my PE has a allen head.

My PE has a regular allan head, but the rest of the handle is all hex heads.

Just wondering,

Garrett

My question was, can I safely take the knife apart without messing the works up? If screws are Allen or Torx is not an issue. I have both drives.

I think the Torx will be the excentric pivot in which case it may be hard to get it back together right.
