i am in the possesion of a fighting knife -early ka-bar i believe-. anyway, i need to find out the value of the knife. it's made by a company called robeson shuridge, on the other side of the blade is printed U.S.A.. the handle is composed of the leather disks used in making ka-bars, and the blade has the same shape as a ka-bar. i've contacted ka-bar about this, but they have no idea what i'm talking about. the knife was used in WWII and is in good to mint condition with no rust on any part of the knife. if any one has any clue to the value of this knife i would greatly appreciate it.

You might get a better response by posting this in the Bernard Levine Forum. He should be able to tell you something.

Kabar would have no idea what you are talking about since Robeson Cutlery was a totally seperate company from them. The value of this knife will depend on whether it is a U.S. Navy Mark 1 (probably $60.00 to $70.00 in excellent unsharpened condition) or if it is a U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Mark 2 which could be valued as high as $400.00 to $500.00 in the same condition. Do you have a picture of this knife that you can post? The Mark 1 has a 5 to 7 inch blade with no fuller (blood groove). The handle is of leather washers and is wider in the middle than at the ends. The Mark 2 has a 7 inch blade with fuller and a handle that looks a little like the handle of a baseball bat and is straight from the guard to the butt, with grooves for a better grip.

Try to describe the knife as much as possible and I will do my best to narrow it down for you. Are there any other markings? Does it have it's sheath.

There is a large degree af difference in value from a good condition to a mint condition.

Edited to correct typos.

For what it's worth the Robeson's seem to be the best made Mark2's, and their kinda hard to find in good shape. Queen now owns Robeson, so maybe they could offer some help? Also, check with Bernand Levine, and Ebay(for current prices).

HTH:D!!!

Steve, here are a couple of pictures. The first is a Mark 1 and the second a Mark 2. These are Kabar knives, but they should give you an idea as to what you have.
