Hi Sal,
The first Spyderco Military that I bought from a Bladeforum member last August got lost in the mail, well after 2+ months it should have arrived but it didn't. This was a major bummer
for me as I wanted to use the military as my Scouting knife, I'm a scoutmaster (leader).
I traded an River City neck sheath for it and that sheath has been empty the last 2+ months
.
I couldn't afford spending again the Dollar amount I lost on the first Spydie. I was forced to trade one of the 3 Spydercos I own, a Starmate for the plain edge CPM440V latest model Military also with a BladeForum member, a policeman and this time it came over the ocean by registered mail and it arrived yesterday.
Sal it was extremely sharp and my left arm now is hairless as the Military shaved them of so fast I probably couldn't have done it better with a razor.
The River City Neck Sheath fits like a glove and the whole package is extremely pleasant to wear around my neck as it only weighs a total of 153 grams (about 6 ounces).
The blade moves very smoothly even though I can't see any spacers (teflon?) around the pivot, does it turn directly on the G10 on one side and the steel liner on the other side?
Lockup is rock solid and the liner lock stops right at the start of the "ramp". It can wear down a lot before it would need readjustment.
I only have found a few things that could be improved upon in my view in the future, they are:
1. I would have liked a somewhat rougher G10 gripping surface.
2. I often use a lanyard while scouting to attach my knife to my belt. We venture out on the water etc. and I wouldn't want to drop it accidentally and lose it.
The lanyard hole in the "end" bushing is small and normally I make lanyards from 550 parachute cord and this is hard to get through the small hole.
I looked at the bushing and it easily could have been 1/8" bigger in diameter so the central lanyard hole could also increase in size. Perhaps a bigger bushing would increase the strength of the grip even more?.
Sal please see these as positive observations, I will not give up the Military and I'm sure that it will serve me well for many years to come.
To make a long story short, Sal, I LOVE THE MILITARY
Best scouting wishes from Holland,
Bagheera
