Military in ATS-34?

Recently I was at a gun and knife show and while looking at a display case filled with Spydercos', I spotted a Military made in ATS-34. I asked to look at it and the vendor said that he had had it for quite a while. I purchased it in a heartbeat because I love the Military design, but I hated the CPM-440V steel (just does not seem to take a good edge).

My question: How long ago did Spyderco use ATS-34 on the Military and why did they stop?

Thanks!

My guess is that ATS-34 Militaries are from 1996-98 or so. Some of the very early Militaries were ATS-34, I used to have a serrated ATS-34 Military myself. It was a great utility knife, especially for reducing old boxes to a managable size. :)

Anthony- thanks for the info!

Since the ATS-34 Millies have been out of production for a while now, does that make them somewhat rare?

They started useing the ATS 34 to reduce the cost of the knife. They are a little rare and bring about the same as a 440V or S30V.

Spyderco for a while offered it in both steels. I have the last year they made the ATS-34 Military which came with a black clip and diamond etched engraving.

I own a NIB ATS-34 Milie SE marked 11/97 on the box and it will stay that way.I used to own the one Anthony Cheeseboro posted above.I shudda kept it.tom.

Thanks for all the info!

I am trying to decide whether or not to keep it; my FS Endura is in the same fully serrated workhorse category and I don't really like having two similar knives (college is verrrry expensive). Is it worth keeping or should I trade it away?

The military was first released in ATS 34. I have both the plain edge and the serrated edge. About a month ago one sold on ebay for $155 -160 IIRC.
