After doing some research and figuring out what I want in an edc, I settled on the military. I had a delica 2 for a while and know spyderco is quality but this will be, by far, the biggest pocket knife I've owned. Still very excited. :D

On a side note, I ordered from an amazon vendor and after reading the comments in the other thread, I'm a little concerned about what I'll get. Anything I need to look for to make sure everything's kosher?

Excellent choice Shotgun. The Military is my favorite Spyderco of them all, with the Gayle Bradley being a close 2nd (51-49). As far as quality goes, you should be good to go. If you have not already pick up a torx set, I'd recommend one of the 8-in-1 sets available at home improvement stores. You can make slight adjustments in the pivot and tighten everything else up. Post up some pictures when you get it.

Congrats on the purchase! The military is an awesome design that gives the most cutting power and ergonomics for a relatively light package.

I really, really doubt you'd get a counterfeit Military--here are some things that will tell you for sure it is real..the quality should be easy to identify just by the pivot action, how the blade is ground etc. For example, because it's S30v the it's harder to polish, so you'll see the scratch pattern from the grind. The bevels should be nice and gradual...fine tip..smooth action with liner lock that engages about halfway onto the tang. The liner is nested and only a partial liner. The non-lock side has no liner. The G-10 is nice and textured.

But like I said, I don't think anyone is making knockoffs of these--I'm very confident you will get a real spyderco Military. just looking at a picture online and comparing should tell you for sure that its real--all the ripoffs of other models I've seen have been easily spotted as fake.

PS--Another thing I didn't mention--the spyderco box would be near impossible to knock off--just look at some pictures of current spyderco boxes and the sticker with the printed info on the end to know what it's supposed to look like.

Great choice, it will give you a whole new definition of cutting ability. A little correction on the above though, both sides will have nested liners.

Well Amazon sent me an email saying my order was cancelled due to not being in stock. So, I went to Howe's knife shop and ordered the camo with satin blade. I actually like that one better and if I'm going to scare the sheeple, might as well go all the way.:D

You guys who edc a Military impress me. I'd love to have kept my M4 or orange or BG-42 Millie, but they are just SO HONKIN' BIG! They cut like a dream but are the stuff of nightmares for non-knife folk caught unawares when you whip it out. I really like the camo you chose, but I think the black blade goes very well with it, and I don't even like coated blades.

Word of warning...the Military will appear to be larger than life when you first lay eyes on it, especially coming from a Delica or similar smaller EDC. Do not be afraid for it means you no harm and will become your best friend within 2 weeks of EDC. A very reassuring and satisfying feeling indeed. Long live the Military:)

hey, thanks for catching that--I never really noticed the other liner because it's so recessed into the handle, plus it only covers probably 1/3-1/2 of the scale.

It seems to shrink after a couple of weeks;)

For some reason so do most other knives and a Delica will seem tiny :D

PS! The trick is to resist the temptation to whip it out and instead open it slowly. Gotten a few  when I've opened mine too fast:o

That monster blade and strong detent seem to build up enough force to make that blade FLY open with a solid thwack. I try and open my Millie slowly and then choke up to make the blade look smaller around NKP. The color orange seems to help make people realize this is a tool, nothing sinister.

As posted above, welcome to a whole new world of cutting. All of that belly combined with the negative blade angle make for great ergonomics and tremendous cutting power. Don't forget you have a 4mm thick blade that will stand up to everything but prying up a sewer grate. Even then, it would probably work if you didn't use the tip, haha. As far as carrying this knife, it rides surprisingly well in pocket with just the pivot showing. Makes it easy to grab out of pocket and open (tip down on a knife this long is almost mandatory).
