Military Issue Shemagh?

I am looking for a shemagh that is either military issue or made to same standards as the issued ones: olive drab and black color, all cotton and no fringe.

Yeah I know I can cut the fringe off, but that leaves an unfinished edge that unravels. Also, seems like there are lots of “fashion” scarves out that look good in on-line photos, but turn out to be pretty useless in the field.

So, can anybody recommend a source for “the real deal”?

I've been wanting one for awhile too actually, but all the online sites you can't really tell how it's going to feel. I want the real deal aswell. I'm going to check out those sites you recommended, Jarod. Thanks, man.

I don't think there is such a thing as a "real deal" when it comes to shemagh's. My friend's "real deal" was the one he bought on deployment in Saudi. I don't think there's such a thing as a military issue for these. Could be wrong though.

You're correct. The "real deal" would probably be the ones that the people along the streets of the sandbox make and sell for a living. I don't believe they are military issued to our troops, perhaps some other countries', but not our's. I want one that's not going to feel like a cheap t-shirt around my neck.

Closest thing I've seen that was real Military Issue was a Night Desert Pattern scarf that a Marine friend brought back from Desert Storm. This is the dark green grid pattern.

Ahh...for what it's worth I got mine from Brigade QM and my buddy couldn't tell the difference as far as quality.

The US Army does not issue these, however they do issue us a desert neckercheif which is pretty much the same. It is coyote brown with no designs, but it works. The ones over here in Iraq are cheap and turisty. You can get pretty much any color for $10 but they are thin and made for the desert heat. They wont last very long with repeated use. I use a spec ops elastic face tube thing. Its great and light and keeps the sand out of my nose and mouth.

My "real deal" was from cheaper than dirt. 10 bucks i think it was. Used it all the time in Afghanistan, and will be going with me the next time too.

I have two that are made in the US. Tactical Tailor makes one in three different colors, nice quality, medium thickness. And, fors thinner, US made shemaghs, that are anti-microbial, and are also flame resistant look at the XGO Shemagh. It's a warmer weather shemagh, you can see light through them.
Both companies actually stitch the edges as to prevent them from unravelling.
They are the best that I can find, look around to find the best deals, I got the XGO for $23 as opposed to the $30 MSRP.
