Just curious and this may have come up before, and I know you cant take a knife to BT,but are average troops allowed to carry any knife of their choice when on duty? Are there length limits? If they are then why do you not see more military personel on TV carrying blades on their belts? Are just certain troops like infantry allowed?Any one know for sure?

I was in the Army, and every post regulation I ever saw had a maximum blade length of 3" (which I believe is standard for all Federal facilities). HOWEVER, it is basically up to post and service regulations and commanders. Some commanders allow carry of combat type knives in the field - others do not. You have to check - and I would get it in writing.

I mostly carried a 4 bladed utility style military issue type pocketknife made by Camillus for day to day wear. All I needed.

They usually won't say much about pocketknives.
