My father-in-law recently gave me a United States Marine Corp bayonet. He states that it is from WWII. It's in ok condition but I would like to restore it. How can I find out info on this knive & posibley get a picture of it in it's original condition? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Hiya Araaaaaaaaaace
(Wooops, sorry. I stuttertype sometimes)

Just wanted to pop in (out?) with a response/question/opinion.

I'm kinda confused as to what knife you're referring to.
As far as I know (admittedly, that knowledge don't reach to far) the only GI blade that has ever been associated with the Marines is what is commonly referred to as the KaBar. (There's also a somewhat rare knife based on the Fairbairne Sykes that was called something to the effect of "Marine Raider Stilleto", but there's not too many of those puppies floating about.
In any event, neither of those knives are bayonets.
If the knife you have is truly collectible, most folks would tell you that attempting to restore the blade would detract from its value.
If it's NOT collectible and in rough shape, chances are that you'd be able to purchase a new (or like-new) one for less than $50.
I guess the question part is, are you sure that it's a bayonet?
Maybe you can get a picture of it and post it. Lots of photo developer type places now develop your film on disks and it's no big deal to post them.
If you wanna go that route, drop me a private email and I'll do what I can to help.
If not, read whatever is written on the knife and post it. Don't forget to check the guard as that's where most of the models are stamped with the info.

Meanwhile, to keep the Gyrenes in the crowd happy, it's spelled "Corps", but not pronounced that way.

Something to consider: If your knife is indeed a "Military Collectable", you can significantly reduce the value by "Cleaning it up"- a good patina helps the value on some knives.
Good luck-
