Military Kukri?

I picked up a Kukri today, that appears to be military issue. Bought it at a local antique fair for $30--no sheath, or anything else. I think it's military, because it's not fancy, but it is of very solid construction and it is marked "1982" with the MoD broad arrow above the 1982, between the 9 and the 8. Other markings just below the 1982 have been neatly ground off. The blade is 12" long, the handle is 4 3/4" long. I don't know how to post photos here, but I can e-mail some photos to whomever would like to see them. I would like to know whatever information you can give me on it. Thank you!

If you wish to e-mail me the photos I'll post them for you.

Alternatively you can put them on the web, (some people use photobucket) and then link to them.

Here you go.

Howard,
All the photos you post display only the dreaded x in a box icon, and when I try to go directly to the URL I get this cheery message from Almost On Line:

As I understand it, the MOD was not making khukuris in 1982. Nor did independent ( 1947-> ) India mark miliary issue items with the "broad arrow." That was a marking used by the colonial government.

Windlass has made thousands of more-or-less replicas of the "K45" over the years. They are generally marked wuth a "broad arrow." I bought one: my first khuk and the begining of an education.

Gunbarrel,

I picked up one as well and kept it just to remind myself the next time I saw a K-45 style to really do my homework before buying.....hey, just use it as a practice piece before doing anything on a good khuk.....

D@#^!

AOL is onto me.

How did they figure out my scheme?

The khukuri pictures were just to gain your confidence. After that I was going to ask you to enter your bank account data.

I suggest dumping AOL if you don't want to be "protected" by them.

Maybe it's better for people to load pictures themselves on one of the free servers like photobucket if this continues to be a problem.

Please don't tell my website host. They may charge customers extra when they learn that their websites can't be viewed by AOL patrons. I think of it as a hidden feature. (Present company excepted, Berk. ;) )
