Military liner play?

While I was cleaning up my Millie the other day, I noticed that when I held it with my right hand and checked for blade play with my left, there was a very slight movement on the liner. It seemed as though the liner, although VERY slightly, moved over to the right and then back again. I'm not sure if this is called vertical blade play or not, but the fact is just that...it has very slight play that it didn't have before. :( Maybe it just needs some adjustment?? When in the locked position, the liner is more in the center, than on the left side as it was when the Millie was new.

I've read about some lockbacks having a little play, the Chinook for example, but does this also affect linerlocks?

I think that the Millie will be taking a little trip back to Colorado for a checkup and a complimentary sharpening......
....as soon as my new Manix PE gets here.....:p :D

A little bit of blade play is ok in lockbacks but not for linerlocks. Something might be worn out and this could result in lock failure (I would not want a 4 inch fully flat ground blade closing on my fingers  ). Try adjusting the pivot to see if it goes away then try spine wacking it.

Yeah... A little bit of up-and-down blade play is ok with lockbacks, but it's bad news for linerlocks. It's natural for the liner to fall more to the right on the tang over time; that's normal wear. If you can wiggle the blade up and down though, then the lock-up isn't stable and it needs to be fixed.

I also have to recommend checking the tightness of the screws going into the stop pin. I had the same issue with mine, and tightening those back up got rid of the blade play.

How long will it last until the liner reaches the end of the ramp? Did it happen to someone?

I've used, abused and constantly flicked (not hard) mine open and closed for 2 years and the liner hasn't moved at all. It will last you a while before it wears right across - a matter of decades in my opinion

The liner on one of my Millies (6 years old) hasn't moved a bit. My other one (maybe 4 years old?) moved to the right a very small amount, but I adjusted the eccentric pivot pin and the lock-up is better. Both knives were used pretty hard.

Interesting comparison: On one custom liner lock that I used, the liner moved from the far left to the far right of the tang after just three days of light use.
