Military lock up...

Ok. Three times now my Millie has attacked me. The lock up in the open position is fine. What concerns me is the lock up in the closed position. Twice, while sitting in a car, I tucked the knife under my thigh and cut myself and the pants leg when the blade opened just a little. I adjusted the drag until its pretty tight, but it seems the problem is that it just doesn't "snap" shut and stay shut. I figured there was a bunch of dried oil, grease, food, lint etc stuck in the detent so I took it apart to clean it out (indeed there was a bunch of gunk in there) but the lock up in the closed position is still way to loose for my likes and now it seems to have developed a little vertical play in the lock up. Choices: take it apart, play with it some more try to get it where I like it. Send it back to Spyderco with a "I took it apart and its not right, I'm sorry" letter. Accept the fact that a liner lock doesn't lock up in the closed position like a back lock and go back to my Chinook....

Been reading this group for a long time and never heard that complaint about the Military before. You might want to send it back to spyderco and see if they can help. Everybody is different. Could the shape of your body or clothing wear be such that inadvertantly your body is rubbing against it in some way that on this and only this knife it starts it toward opening? Try a slight change in position of carry, and see if it helps. Thats my only suggestion short of sending it in.

I'd suggest calling Mike(800-525-7770) at Warranty and Repair and explain your concerns with him. He'll make it right, or replace the Millie with a new one. ;) I've got two Millies(PE, CE) and have never had a problem with them opening up in this manner. Good luck. :D

Try tightening the pivot if you don't mind.
And BTW, did you take the pivot out of the G10, and if so, did you put it back properly, cause that might explain the vertical play.
