Hi all

I have gotten so many positive feedbacks about the Military model that I finally bought one. I could have bought a new one but I saved some money and bought a "pre-owned" knife.
from what I can figure out this seems to be an early version (pre 98?) The blade is ATS-34, it has a 2 screw clip, and the model etc. is engraved on the blade.
Are there any problems with this model?
Were major improvements made in the later model?

## NOTE ## I made a similar post on the Spyderco web site forum and was surprised that with all the expertise there that I got no response. Please help if you can.

I too have the older model Military, and mine was made in 97. It has the 2 screw clip and has the notched choil with the CPM 440V plain blade. I like the older model hands down over the newer style and I have never had a problem with it and I use it hard. Let me know if you don't like it because I collect the older models.:D

Thanks for the reply. I just got some feedback on my other post. From what I gather the changes made to the newer Military models were minor refinements. I'm glad to hear you have had such good luck with yours. I'm happy with mine and am sure it will serve me well.

there are advantages with ATS-34 compared to CPM 440V. The major one is that it´s tougher and it will not break and chip as easily as the 440V.

It holds its edge quite well. However the 440V will hold it for a considerably longer period. Also, the 440V is more rust resistant (not much though). And last but not least; it will hold its edge much longer (if heat treated correctly) than ATS-34.

My answer would therefore be; The intended use determines the optimal choice of blade steel. The other adjustements regarding the Military are of a minor sort, not detected in practical use.
