Military Opening Detents

I have had my Military for just under 6 months. I recently noticed a distinct detent with a click when the blade is about 85% opened. Then there will be a second detent when it is fully opened an the liner lock is in place. The first time it happened I actually thought the knife was locked open - it wasn't.

I can feel the same detent on my Sage 1 if I pay careful attention, but I never noticed it untill I did pay close attention. With normal opening I never notice it.

I have not tried to adjust the tension on any of my knives because I don't like them really loose.

My main question on the Military is do I have anything to worry about? Is something wearing out or out of alignment? Or is it just a Spyderco thing?

I it's nothing to worry about, I won't bother. But if something is amiss I'll contact Spyderco CS.

The first click is when the detent ball drops off of the blade tang, and the last is when the liner lock engages. If you look as you open it, you can see that the liner lock rides about 1/32nd off of the blade for the majority of the travel on the detent ball, and for that last bit the side of the liner lock is actually sitting on the side of the blade. Totally normal...

wood-butcher,

Once you explain what's happening, it's easy to see. I won't worry about it.

Thanks!

wood-butcher is right. After the detent ball drops off the blade it will prevent the blade from going back as well, feeling as if it has locked. It doesn't just happen to the knives you've described it happens to all liner/frame locks, unless they don't have a detent ball. You've probably just never noticed it :)
