Military or Manix?

I was planning to purchase a new folder for general utility chores (food preparing above all) and I was leaning to the Spyderco Military (S30V steel, plain edge) when I saw the new Spyderco Manix, a little smaller, same steel and edge, but different lock mechanism.
How does the Manix compare to the Military in your opinion? And which one would you choose?
Thanks

I cannot comment on the Manix, but I presume it is a good all around knife. The Military is a great knife for all around use for sure. It is my usual EDC, and I own many, many folders. I would say that the one place that the Military might not be "great" would be for very heavy duty twisting or tip prying. The tip is very thin.

Another big plus for the Military is that it is so light weight. This light weight makes if very easy to carry in dockers and dress pants if you so desire.

I've been wondering the same exact thing since the Manix first came out. My bet is that the Military will excel at general utility chores, just because the knife is so light and thin. A less bulky knife is more likely to be carried. Also, the liner lock on the Military is probably more convenient to close with one hand. Convenience is a big deal (at least for me) when it comes to something I carry all the time.

With that said, I have definite plans on getting a Manix. The slightly smaller size, beautifully shaped blade and lockback are huge selling points for me. The Manix could easily become my outdoor folder of choice. And if it’s almost as good as the Military for general utility, it could replace my Military entirely.

Also consider the Para-Military. The compression lock is most likely more reliable than the Military’s liner lock, and the Para is very light and thin. For general utility only, it could be the best of both worlds.

Well, I just chose the Military, but that's just me. Why did I not go for the Manix? Weight. It is just too heavy for me to cary regularly. If you don't mind the few extra ounces the Manix is stronger and I think more refined looking. If at all possible, try to compare them in person at the same time.

Oh, considering food prep, the Military will be much easier to clean and keep clean.

I don't know the Military, but the Manix is awesome. I got it for all around chores and kitchen knife substitute. I don't find it all that heavy actually, carries well and the handle ergos are the best! I would assume that a liner lock is easier to clean than a lockback. But every Spyderco knife can be easily disassembled for thorough cleaning with a couple of torx.

The Military is a more elegant blade and versatile for different kinds activities. It is very thin and even though it is pretty long, it kind of disappears when you carry it.

I don't mind the weight of the Manix (heck, if you have ever carried a Buck 110 you know what I mean) and it is far more stout than the Military. I have started carrying the Manix around our property and it is really built to be abused more readily than the Military.

The pivot action on my Manix is so smooth that when the lock is depressed, it drops 90 degrees easily and then closing it is very quick. I am not a fan of liner-locks and even though Spyderco does about as good a job as any, I still won't carry them.

I have been contemplating getting a new knife (who of us isn't?) and I was tossing around the idea of getting a Manix. As a lefty it looks promising. I'm also fickle when it comes to my EDC. I carry a Sebenza daily. The reviews of the knife that are popping up here on BFC have prompted me to overlook that fact that though I haven't handled the knife I may just up and purchase one and see for myself. Of those of you who do have one would you recommend the PE or SE? This will be a back-up EDC when the Seb is out for maintainence. I carry for basic cutting chores and should the occassion arise, self defense.

I picked up a Para-Millie at the NYCKS last weekend. It's got much thicker G-10 scales than the Millie and has liners (inbedded) on both sides, as well as a very strong compression lock. Overall, it's a good deal more robust than the regular Millie. Unless you need the longer blade length of the Millie, I highly recommend the Para. ;)
