Ok, so I'm ready to upgrade to a large folder and can't make up my mind. I've narrowed it down to either a Military PE or one of the G-10 Police PE models. Plan to carry on weekends, around the house and when out hiking. Which do you prefer and why?

First off, if you can find a G-10 Police, I'd advise you to pick it up really quick. It's been discontinued since '01(I think) and are getting a little harder to find. The Military is a Spydie, which I believe, that will be around a very long time.

Personally, I would pick the Military in S30V steel(new model). It's my favorite Spydie, hands down. I would have to say that the full flat grind, great ergos, and the very light weight of this Spydie as being its' best features. Big folder with a hefty blade, but so lightweight that you might forget that you have it on you.

Found a source that has 4-5 of the PE G-10 Police models. Price was around $97.00 plus shipping. What did these sell for when in production? Military is a little cheaper, but not much so price isn't a big deal. Primary concern was with the liner lock on the military, but based on all of the past posts I can't find any major problems.

If by some chance you are a "lefty", you can cross-off the liner-lock Military model from your list right now. I have had a Military, and a few Police models. One of my current EDCs is a SS SE Police model, so THAT will be MY suggestion...A Police model in VG-10 steel.

I would take the Military in the new S30V steel, I only say that because mine's coming in the mail:D Despite that, also look at some other knives in the same price range. Benchmade comes to mind for solid liner locks. I've handled a Military and I ordered one online the next day. It's a big knife.

Glockmann99 - I am a lefty, but draw and shoot right. Not sure how I got so screwed up, but blame it on my childhood. Was a natural lefty and couldn't wait to play baseball. The only mitt we had was a righty, so the conversion began. Still write left handed...Ok so I scrible a bit...but most everything else is right.

BTW - Thanks for you advice on CO5 Standard a few weeks ago. It hasn't left my side since I picked it up. Now I am spoiled by the G-10 scales. Think that is why I'm drawn to these two models.
;) ;) ;)

Sharkman - what was so great about the military once you got it in your hands? Looking for the first "gotta have it" impressions that made you rush home to order it. Also, where did you purchase and how much?
