I recently purchased an old KA-BAR USMC/USN MK2 type knife in an antique store. It is marked KA-BAR on two lines on the crossguard, while the other side of the guard the markings have been obliterated. I originally had read that this obliteration was done by the government before the knife was released as surplus. But I was recently told that the knife was a post war commercial sale of knives that were already assembled and marked at wars end, and that KA-BAR did this before selling them commercially. I have no intention of selling the knife, and as I only paid $10.00 for it, and it is in very nice shape, I am not concerned about value. Just curious about what I have. Any insight??
