I own a military and think it is one of the best knives I have ever owned.Tommorow if the lords willing I am going to get a large wegner. How do you think they compare? It seems to me that 440V is some kind of steel.

Hard call, whatcha gonna do with the knife?
I have both already. I prefer ATS-34 over S60V (440V), as in the tasks I use my knives for, the S60V seems to be too soft. For ME.

I like hollow grinds more than flat, although I like the distal taper of the Military.

Man, I don't know. It all depends on what you're gonna do with it. If I were gonna take a folder into the woods as a backup to my Buck Vanguard, it would be the Wegner, no doubt. Skinning: Wegner. Self defense: either, but may lean toward the Military. General utility.... it's a toss up. Probably depending on what kind of mood I'm in. That and what I'm wearing.

I love 'em both, and bet you will too. You'll probably have the same problems deciding, once you get your Wegner. Both are awesome designs, executed by two great artisans in the industry (IMO).

I am wrestling with the same question and can't make up my mind and will end up with both also, don't know ??? 440v is to soft what do you use it for?

It's going to depend on you. They're both great knives, well executed. Personally, I carry my Wegner much more often.

Got the wegner today, believe both are great knives. Is it true smart men carry knives with holes in them?

Everyday stuff: cardboard, tape, cutting articles out of magazine, accidentally nicking a staple....

... branches, food bags. But, for me, the big test is the cardboard. It dulls faster than M2, D2, BG42, and Talonite.

Get the Military. On second thought, get the Wegner. No wait, make it the Military. Hang on, hang on... okay get the Wegner.

Military, and that's my final answer.

Well, maybe not... go Wegner.

Heck, get 'em both. You won't regret it.

Maybe you should get a Chinook. This heavy duty lockback has a full belly for skinning but also has a mean bowie style clip point blade that is ultra wide. I know that James Keating designed it as part of the MBC series, but I feel that this will make a heck of a sturdy work knife or hunter.

Military -- all the belly and cutting needs covered! Wegner -- got heft, feels good on your hands!

Great blade geometry for gutting and dressing game!

Wunderful knife too! Verdict : Get both knives! No regrets!

If you absolutely HAD to pick one which would it be and why?

I have them both and I really do not know which I like more. Maybe Military for it's light weight (I'm extremely lazy guy

), tip down carry mode and flat ground utility blade? Or maybe Wegner for it's excellent ergonomics, stronger edge and hefty feel? Depending on mood and what I'm doing...
Man, you are in hard situation if you need to choose one of two, the best is to get both

Any chance of seeing one of your excellent reviews on the Wegner? I know they have been out for awhile but I would love to see one of your excellent reviews on it.

Hi Dennis, thanks for kind words!

Yes, I'm planning to review SPYDERCO - Tim Wegner folder which I like a lot. But this time I have some unexpected obstructions to review anything: a lot of job in my main occupation (still more job than money
wink.gif
), some urgent writings for magazines.
The worst is that my photo camera (old Russian ZENIT) have kicked the bucket after more than 20 years of duty. So in the nearest time I'm limited to reviews on items where I have managed to make photos before this "tragedy".

My next review on SPYDERCO - Jame Keating's Chinook, I'll try to publish it within next week.

That's good to hear Sergiusz. I've been trying to make up my mind between the Gunting and the Chinook, maybe your review will help tilt the scales. I'll keep an eye out for it.
