Military Overrun?

Can someone explain the military overrun designation to me? Has/does Busse produce knives to the US Armed Forces, if so what NSN's do these go out under?

The definition of an NSN number is simply an official label applied to an item of supply that is repeatedly procured, stocked, stored or issued and used throughout the entire Federal supply system.

It is my understanding that Busse Combat has produced runs of knives at the request of specific Military Units. However, since these knives are not intended to be repeatedly procured, stocked, stored or issued, no NSN number is applied for nor issued.

Hope that helps.

That is my understanding, as well. Further, I believe, albeit with little eveidence, that the majority of Bussekin production is for service units, and the pretty satin stuff they make for retail is just the gravy.

A freedom of information act request should produce all procurement documents regarding Busse and the military. The military can refuse to release procurement documents on classified items, but that wouldn’t apply to knives.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I would have thought that most Busse stuff is in fact bought by civilians or by service people with personal funds. Even the military overrun stuff.

I can imagine Busse making a number of knives that have been commissioned, but I still think the majority of sales of the same model gets bought with non-military funds.

The product is still outstanding, lets drink! :)

Busse makes models for military use that we never get to see. The Sus Scrofa was made for helicopter crews before it was ever offered to us. A few years ago, Garth described to some of us his work on designing a knife for tanker crew use. He visited a base and sat in the Abrams to get a sense of the small space.

My buddy's a tanker in the marines over in the sand pit right now. Still has about 80 days left on tour. I wonder what knife he got for his unit. Probably not a Busse I imagine.
