I realize the Military has a liner-lock. However, does it have dual liners and what is they/it made of? Thanks.

Edited due to lack of caffeine induced stupidity.

It's always had liners. They're small, really only there for the screws to mount into and for the lock, but the knife is by no means lesser because of this fact. The Military is one of the greatest knives ever made by Spyderco. I'm sure they're steel like all other Spyderco liners.

Thanks for the reply. I've read so many good things about this knife over the years that I'll probably have to go ahead and get one. The only reason I haven't yet is that I'm not a huge fan of liner-locks. Actually, I wasn't overly impressed with the compression lock either, but that's a user-friendliness issue rather than strength concerns. I dream of the day Spyderco licenses the Axis lock...

The liner lock on the Military is definitely one of the best. I'm not a fan of the compression lock either. I guarantee if you get one you won't be disappointed. :)

The Military has a single steel liner, nested into the scale. The G-10 Spyderco uses is a custom formulation with something like 30% additional glass. These features give the Military's lock an in-house rating of heavy-duty that is something on the order of 150 inch pounds. In terms of pure strength, this is excessively strong.

More important though, is the lock's reliability. In this the Military truly excels. When you get one, test it with a simple spine whack. If it passes, it is correctly manufactured and can be expected to be faultlessly reliable. In the unlikely event that it fails, you have a maunfacturing defect which Spyderco will make right. There isn't much middle ground. It will either be right or not, you shouldn't have to wonder and the odds are overwhelming that it will work as designed.

The Military is, in my opinion, one of the finest utility folding knife designs ever. I have carried one every day for years, I own both plain edge and serrated. I have never been disappointed by this model while many others, from many companies, have come and gone, failing to surpass the Military's form and function.

Please let us know if you decide to go with one. :)

The compression lock is around 185 lbs per inch. The compression is a stronger and much more reliable lock.
