How many of you here served in the military? The ones here that have, Did you enjoy your military service and would you make that decision again? For those of you who are, thank you for your service.

I served in army after high school.

I enjoyed furthering my career and discipline.

Never would I offer my life again for OIL.

If America gets attacked, THEN I'll join again. Not for oil.

Come on, nobody uses community.

You posted this is in the General KNIFE discussion forum. Where was the discussion of knives? We have a forum structure for a reason. This thread is for the Community forum.

General Knife Discussion is not an all-purpose bulletin board for greater exposure. If we allowed that, we would destroy it, with so many posting to get noticed, it would lose its value to showcase anything, let alone knives.

More people would look in on Community if more people posted interesting topics there.

I've 24+ years service so far, mind you I'm north of the US borders, and would do it again. I'm in Communications and joined to get a job, wound up with a career and still enjoy it. I'm quite a bit slower than when I was younger but the common goals, discipline (thought I would wind up in jail had I not joined) and hard work sort of functions for me. Plus they let me travel so yeah I'd do it again. Would I coax my kids into this as a career choice not so much the few trips to the warmer regions have turned me off seeing my kids do it.

Navy, four years in the late 80's, tail end of the Cold War. Lived through a couple of terrible incidents, have PTSD today (with a VA pension because of it). I originally joined because my family had a tradition of naval service. I was a little messed up when I got out, but if I was needed, I'd go back. I launched & recovered aircraft on the Nimitz; at times, it was miserable, hard, physically demanding work, but it toughened me up like nothing I'd known before.

The Soviet Union was dissolved the day after Christmas, 1991, and I think at that moment, I realized how important our service had been. I've managed to work through a lot of my issues with the help of my wife & friends, so my attitude toward those years has changed quite a bit.

To those who serve or have served, thank you. I know from my own time in service that it's not easy.

~Chris

I was an avionics electrician and door gunner on the CH-46, thus the Combat Aircrew wings as my avatar.
Spent almost a year in the desert during the first gulf war.
I would do it again.

After America was attacked on 9/11, I went and talked to the recruiter who said I was to old to reenlist.

Army/Army Reserves 1984-1993. If I had to change anything it would have been active duty. Yes I would go back to serve my country and fight beside my son who is a Marine in a heartbeat. I feel everybody should serve out of high school to learn respect for themselves and people around them.
Oh by the way I carried an Old Timer 34ot, still have it 30 years later.
