Military, sometimes I wonder....

I admit it, I am retired Army. Actually, didn't pursue it but was "declared" Disabled Veteran 20+ years later due to injuries suffered on active duty.
To the point: In certain hobby arenas I see some but not plentiful recognition of Military/LE service.
I won't mention (because I don't know if its allowed) several Knife.Gun.etc.. sites offer discounts or ordering privledges to Military/LE (with proof).
I personally, think this is outstanding. Actions speaking louder than words. Anybody can say they support the Armed Services - it is few that SHOW the support.
Expected? No
Appreciated? Very much.
Hope this thread doesn't get "buried" in some sub-forum.
I think it's important or I wouldn't have said it.:)

many, many manufacturers and companies offer discounts for military/law enforcement personnel.

oakley
spyderco
benchmade
rick hinderer
strider
knifecenter.com
ag russell

non knife related:

apple
jos a. bank (suits)
verizon wireless

I know. I said "some not many" I also said it is greatly appreciated. I think discounts and/or being able to order direct for those few, I do not think would represent a hardship to the manufacturers.
Thank you for your service.

i did not mean to imply anything by my post in reference to your words.

i was just offering a list from memory of companies i have purchased from at a discount.

I am Active Duty Army and I got a discount on the knives I bought from Busse.

In my experience, I've found that receiving a military discount is more of a rule than an exception. I've gotten discounts on everything from RV's to cell phones to lumber just by asking if a military discount was available. Most of the time, the answer is yes.

Thank ALL for either their service OR the Love and support of those who do.
Seriously the recognition is not expected but when it is extended the appreciation is heartfelt.
Do some companies? Yes. Would more be appreciated? Yes.
None of us got rich serving our Country. Many sacrificed a great deal. Sometimes personal wealth, a Family, Health, Life itself.
Did it voluntarily. No thanks required.
Today, with ALL that is going on - the folks who show their appreciation are to be recognized and patronized.

Thanks to all who do/did serve. Thanks to all who support the troops.

I don't have the ability to provide a discount because I am a bouncer at a night club. However, I will buy servicemembers a round or two if I happen to card them and see the I.D. A few bucks here and there seems so insignificant after all they do...

Also, I think it got moved here because it was not specifically about a knife.

I stupidly rarely ever took advantage of military discounts when I was in the service. I only ever did it at the movies.

Your gesture is greatly appreciated.
BTW, I was a bouncer in the late 70's best job I ever had! What a blast.

I just called knife center. They said they dont have a military discount.?

I have never done business with the Knife Center. Not sure what you are looking for But, A.G. Russell gives 25%. Surefire gives 20%. Several companies I contacted do not. Still good companies but I patronize those who show support for the troops. I mention AGR and SF because I asked them if it was ok to pass that discount info along and they said please do.

My younger brother is a Marine. I know all about the sacrifices he has made, that our whole family has made, as he has served. I wish I could do more. He and I actually have an idea to provide jobs for vets when he is done and I finally have time to do all the paperwork.

I love it. It's boring some days, but I work with a good crew and have usually good patrons.

My father (not a knife maker) offers discounts to currently active military. Most of the knifemakers I know offer discounts to currently active military. I have seen military discounts offered at a lot of stores, and online stores. Never hurts to ask, or bring up that you are active military. A good number of stores also offer veterans discounts. It's on you to provide the information.
