A few months ago I ordered a military (unknowing of its fame),and the knife I recieved had "ATS-34 Golden, Colorado USA" along with its appropriate insignia etched on the blade. However, after doing some reading I noticed that people refer to a different steel as being the production blade. Is mine different or inferior?
After a few weeks carrying it I fell and left a nasty gash on the clip. Being the most visble peice while carrying, it breaks my heart to see its scarred beauty.
Is ther any way to replace it?
I would love to upgrade to one of those cool blue titanium clips, like on the customs, but I don't have the first clue where to look. Maybe one of the custom makers would do it but I'm sure it would cost more than the knife itself.

Kb3 - welcome to the Spyderco forum.

The steel in your Military is a good steel and should provide you with many years of good service. there are always new and sometimes better materials. Spyderco is always testing those materials. The current Military is being made with a "powdered metal" steel that is fairly new and is still in the "learning process" stage.

For the clip, call Customer service. I'm sure that Angela will fix you right up.

kb3,Welcome.
You've just heard from number one. Do exactly what he says. Call or email Angela at customer service, You will be taken care of. These folks at Spyderco have the customer service game down pat. You will be taken care of.

In the Military, you have chosen a fine folding utility knife. When I went hunting for a Military, I chose ATS-34 over CPM 440V because I wanted a well known steel that I had no questions about. I use my Military daily with no performance complaints. CPM440V steel may be superior in some aspects but how much more than plenty does one need?

Again, welcome to the forums.

best regards.

phil
